My first composing.

It's a weird thing i know. I also don't know how to composing. I just tried to write what i'm hearing on my head. It's incomplete i just want to learn what do you think. Please feel free to write your thoughts. Thank you.

Honestly, I am impressed... if this is your first work... Wow. That's all I can say. If this is all by ear... then all I can wonder is how long this took. Learning theory can make it go much faster. Definitely very good. Well your ear is definitely good. The only suggestions I can make are: while instruments are holding out long notes, you can have some countermelodies in the background.

I think it is pretty good.

This is pretty amazing for a first work... I agree with maelstromtempest that some countermelodies would sound really good but this piece is pretty awesome just the way it is!

If I wrote this for my first work, I would be one of the happiest beginner composers alive! It sounds great! I will have to stick to what maelstromtempest said, however, in that in the beginning you could use a few more countermelodies to help pass the time on long notes.

Good start!

Thank you to all for sharing your comments first.

I said it's first cause it just only my first orchestral composing. In normally I'm playing electric guitar and I have few finished songs too.

As your said I will add some countermelodies under long notes.

If you have other ideas or comments feel free and tell me please.

Thank you.

Wow.

I'll be honest... when I read your post, I was expecting something a little... lacking. But I was incredibly surprised! This is rich, lush (luscious?), and honestly has the potential to be huge! I'd definitely like to see some more out of you/out of this, 'kay?

This was actually quite well done, especially if it was your first composition. You know what it sounds like? A great score for a Sega Genesis game . And that's not a bad thing, I don't think ;).

Keep up the good work :D!

For your first piece ever?

Not to bad.

Yes my first orchestral trying.

This is actually great for a first work. Most beginners don't have this kind of sophistication. Your musical instincts are terrific, and I agree with others here that if I'd written something this cool my first time out, I'd have been thrilled.

I pulled the MIDI into Finale, and it looks like you processed this through a sequencer; I can tell because the rhythms, while sounding fine, don't line up with the exact timing of the scoring grid, and in a score-generated MIDI they would. There's nothing wrong with that - and of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm curious as to whether you've actually written out a score. I ask because, depending upon what you want to do with your music, you may find the ability to write things down and score them properly a useful tool, if you don't already know how. Forgive me, but in these days of sequencers and home studios, it's a fair question.

I thought some of your orchestration ideas were clever and imaginative, particularly the way you used your percussion. I'm not a big fan of static parallel triads, such as you used in the strings under the first repetition of the lyrical theme - there are better ways to accomplish what you're trying to do there - but I confess part of my problem with it is a prejudice against parallel fifths and octaves, which as you may know are forbidden in traditional harmony.

Above all, I'd encourage you to keep composing, no matter how you do it. By continuing your experimentation, you'll keep improving.

Big Bang Theory

Thank you. But I didn't get what do you mean for saying "what's the instrumentation?"

Thank you too.

Yes I wrote it with Sequencer. But I don't get what do you mean for saying "I can tell because the rhythms, while sounding fine, don't line up with the exact timing of the scoring grid, and in a score-generated MIDI they would." If I'm correct, time signature changing some points maybe thats why you saying its not line up exact timing of scoring grid.

Well I think maybe I can compose for using paper if i learn sight reading well. I know how to wrote most timings but I hardly read the notes and cant imagine how it sounds like for just looking the score.

Can you give me more info about parallel triads, parallel fifths and octaves and what is forbidden in traditional harmony?

Thank you very much for listening and comments.

Big Bang Theory

But I didn't get what do you mean for saying "what's the instrumentation?"

What is it written for? Is it written for 6 violins, 3 cellos, 1 drum set, 5 violas, 2 trumpets (merely an example- this would probably be a horrible score not even close to what it is). Basically, what quantity and type of instruments is it written for?
