Variations for String Trio, op.2.pdf

First of all nice professional layout for your sheets. The first variation is nice. I think the use of free counterpoint is great. You create a great atmosphere with it. Very characteristic. The theme stays a lillte bit underdevelopt in my opinion even for a variation. The second variation is very nice. It's a good follow-up for the first one too. The use of the theme is great. Especialy just before the thirt voice enters. The thirt is very short. The cello's whole notes are a bit to much in the beginning but when the variation ends they where just wright. Nice way of creating dissonance. The fourth, Mahler's theme, is..well Mahler's theme. I think you handled it good. The last is also very nicely done. It's a good ending variation as well. As a whole i realy like these variations. The challenge i think is to make different peice all on the same theme which are still nice to listen to as a whole. I think you managed that here. All pieces contribute to the whole, but stand nicely on there own. Maybe they are all a bit on the shorthand. The variations have a little to less variation on there own. But in all i really liked it. The pieces are all very charasteristic and the use of free counterpoint is great. I'm a big fan of free counetrpoint though. Nice work! I'm looking forward to hear more from you, in this style particulary.

Nice layout for the score. But not having bowings for the instruments was very disappointing.

Nice counterpoint, as gijs van beusekom mentioned, but there were a couple of points in which the voice movement was a bit awkward.

I liked your melodies and the variations a lot, especially the third. Overall, a very enjoyable work.

Very soulful! I quite like the way that the piece doesn't try to do "everything" but restricts itself to a limited range of expression, as if it were doing the P

Thank you for replies and for liking my composition, :) I know it's not masterpiece - it's only my second completed work, so there are many details (and big issues) for me to learn along the way. I'm glad you liked the atmosphere, and that general impression was nice (I think that's important, and the rest can be learned ;))
