Into the Gateway, dark, sci-fi fantasy...

Hey this is a newer piece I am currently working on for my Technoir Project.

I need some comments on it, how it makes you feel, possible things I can do to improve it.

Disregard the last 10 seconds plan on changing the melody and taking it somewhere different.

Well here it is. I wanted to convey, dark sci fi fantasy urban action with gothic and technological resonances.

Those drums at the start....too heavy! You don't need to take them down too much but they cross that line from strong to overpowering.

But you certainly got Sci-Fi down, and a nice blend of synth sounds and orchestral sounds. Tubular bells especially were very well worked in. I'm not sure about Urban actin though, it seemed to slow for that given the genre. I felt more like exploring a massive sci-fi city. It wouldn't have to speed up much, just a tiny bit.

Very well done technically though, and you captured the mood really well. I could just imagine maglev trains running past on laser beams :)

Yeah I agree, action is really what I needed here, exploration definitely suits this better. I agree with the drums too heavy after listening to it in my car. Sucks that I can only compose with headphones until I get enough cash for some great speakers. Currently saving for some JBLs.

I plan on having a distinct movement change near the end...we shall see.

Do you think the drums should be more...distinct...different? Or are they fine as is?

I agree with Fox. That bass drum is too heavy. It feels like you're smashing a bass drum with a sledgehammer. They become less noticeable though as other layers of sound build over top so it doesn't ruin the piece. Just something I'd recomend ironing out. There's also a snare part abotu halfway through the piece that feels slgithly off. I'm not sure if it's the rhythm or just the sound you used but I don't much care for it. Anyway, this has a very Harrowing style to it. I'm always able to tell pieces apart from anybody else that posts on this forum. I did enjoy this peice but I wasn't really sure if I could discern a particularly theme or melody in this piece. As with many of your pieces though, you did a great job at setting an atmosphere and capturing a sci-fi feel.

First off, thanks a ton for taking the time to post a comment. I will defintiely remix this thing after I complete it. And I will take your crits in consideration.

The Harrowing style is pretty much the greatest compliment an artist can get. Having one's own approach to a pretty broad medium is great to hear, I am glad that I am having that effect. But, with that said, what is it exactly that sounds different from everyone else?

Hi. I liked the song overall. Also agree with the comments about the bass drum. Another thing - maybe you could have a bit more variety in the rhythm... to me it sounds like a long time to stick with the same beat. If you can change it up without disrupting the flow of the song then it might make the rhythm less monotonous.. my 2c
