C Minor Piano Solo

Featured Replies

Here is a piece that I came up with recently, far from being finished though.

I'm usually very bad at composing for the left hand, but I still gave it a shot in this piece.

Any suggestions or ideas would be great. I really have no idea what should come next...

Just as I thought, everyone hates my piano music :P

Hmm, I didn't think it was that bad. At around 0:26, the transition to the next theme is a little rough, but not bad. You should definitely continue with this piece.

I would add a countermelody to keep interest for the listener. The melody is fine for an exposition, but straight eighth notes will get boring after a while. Overall, your style is apparent in this piece, which is good.

Stick to the changes you made in the last few measures; all thirty seconds of the piece are mostly building up tension. I would follow up with a fast, 16th note melody in a similar style to what you already have.

I think what you should do is add some notes in order to lead into a repeat to the beginning of the piece. Then, after the repeat, you should put a major-key variation of your original minor-key theme. This should help.

Thank you both for your insights. I was actually planning to somehow return to the beginning of the piece but finding the right way to do so proved to be quite hard. One of the problems I have while composing is that I won't return to previous themes, which makes a piece sound quite aimless.
