Isolation is set for solo flute.

The piece is part of a concept who interplay the parts between rests and notes. Where the sound and slience is equaly important not restriced to any harmony or rythmic pattern.

Thank you for answering. I wonder what you found interesting. The music is bound to give you some sort of feeling or colour. The most important thing with my works is; They always will be interpretated different. My young student see the orange colour when she hear music I have written.

It would be realy interesting to see if anyone got the same colour as my student.

im afraid i dont understand the meaning of the large portion of rests. you said this was a piece demonstrating the interplay of rests and notes....could you please be more specific on your intent with this piece? i could be more helpful in my comments if you would do this for me as in i dont understand the purpose of the extended rests, let alone why the first 10 or so measures are blank.

well... my intention was to make the sound of an instrument let alone, in solitude.... and to give this idea, i had to put some rests to give the sense of waiting.

When you listen to the first part, you hear nothing, and it may happen you feel uncomfortable about this, because it is like "when this will start? what's going on? it is supposed to be something there, but i see nothing!"

......at least this was the intention i had in mind while i i wrote the piece, in this exactly way; and to accentuate this, there's just a little group of notes in the middle and then just at the very end... to make this sense of solitude, desolation, and awaiting for something that doesn't come soon, as usually you would be expected to.

You have to wait, and this waiting makes you (or should make you) feel uncomfortable.

Hope this makes the piece a bit more enjoyable and clear, understandable :)

well then musically i found this uninteresting, but from a deeper point of view i think you captured the emotion you were going after. the only critique i could make is that i felt you could have gave longer values to the notes instead of the huge amount of rests. keep the rests in there, but make the phrase you have and/or add some short phrases to give the listener a sharper contrast between the rests and notes. i look forward to you posting more work here :)

Thank you for your explanation, it cleared up some things, but I have a few more questions, if you don't mind? :)

You have no tempo on your score, what sort of tempo do you intend? (I refuse to listen to midi, especially on pieces like this, and prefer to play the piece myself) Also, is there a reason you notated the gaps as bars with rests, as opposed to an interval of time? I would've thought it would be easier for the performer to wait a certain period of time in silence, which could be notated easily enough, then to start playing, than to count 11 bars in an unspecified tempo. That applied to both gaps.

Another question, if you don't mind... Is there any significance to the number of bars, or the amount of time between the playing? Also, what significance does what is actually played have? I've played it through (on my tenor recorder, I don't have a flute :() and I can say that it's nice, but it's nothing too groundbreaking or fantastic to my ears, so is there any concept or idea behind the music, aswell as the silence?

If I'm asking too many questions feel free to tell me to bugger off :D

Regarding the absence of indication of tempo, i just omitted it on purpose, because i want to represento a non specifical tempo..... there's no speed needed. as human being you can decide if you want to walk, which can be slowly, very slowly, or fast or even start to run... so it is mostly up to the performer.

there are some composers that just note the pitches and no other indication is given, like just only the little dots, without the queue from where you can define whether it is a 1/8 or 1/16 or else.. just the dot, with maybe the sharp or the flat, and that's it.. and you decide the speed and the tempo and the instruments... so it is nothing weird or unusual. just a technique.

freedom of doing what you better feels in that moment according to what u want to show... and the rests are there because i want the performer to count the tempo since there's no tempo indication... so the performer has to know when to start and when to finish and begin the sound. hope i answered well all your questions :) and if you have others, just say them, there's freedom of speech, you can ask or say anything, as long as you don't say it just to offend me or others.... you know?

for what concernes me, you can ask me (you as anybody..) all what you think, whatever question. music is freedom in feelings, one day u listen to a music and it gives you a feeling, according to your mood, the day after you listen to the same tune, but your mood is different so you feel something different. and so on....

ah, for the number of the bars i like the number 11 and 15, they have a special meaning for me, because i had some nice things happening on the 11th and 15th in many occasions in my life, so they are dear to me. that's it :)

You've answered all of my questions satisfactorily :)

I now have one tiny suggestion, that you indicate somewhere on the score that the performer is to decide on the tempo. I know this may be written elsewhere in performance notes, and you may tell the performer - but it's my personal opinion that it would look nice to have it on the score :D

As for your choice of 11 and 15, and think that's a perfectly good reason to use those numbers of bars, I like it.
