Bagatelle in Em

Hello again,

This is a piece i recently finished. I'm quite proud of it, because the emotional effects are quite big for my standard. I took me about a month on and of to write. It's in a sort of rondo-form, with an equal intro and outro. I hope you will enjoy it too.

This piece has a quiet thoughtful mood so perhaps "bagatelle" is not the best name, perhaps "reverie" would suit it better.

The part about half way through where the rhythm changes seems to me not to work - a change is good but this one comes out of nowhere and then doesn't last very long. A little revision here would improve the piece which over all is quite enjoyable.

So what are the standards for a bagatelle. When is a piece called a bagatelle and when isn't it?

Bagatelle literally means "a trifle": it is a piece with a jovial feel, if in minor key. I may be wrong but it may be true that they are in three? Not sure if that's a standing rule though =]

Bagatelle means a short unpretentious instrumental composition, a trifle as huckle said, which could apply to this piece. I don't think there is any indication of time or major/minor. It certainly wouldn't be wrong to call it a bagatelle.

My comment was based on your initial post where you spoke of "emotional effects" which seemed more than trifling and a performance not dashed off in a trifling manner.

I see what you mean. The emotional effects i mentioned are more introverted ment, opposed to grandios, with a bang etc. The word "big" was misleading. Thanks for the explanation Euler and Huckle.
