Hello Mano!

At last this work goes public!

I have to say that I enjoyed your trip very much and I would love to have seen the ballet live! It must've been some experience, huh? :)

Each theme is closely connected to each other, and there is coherency. It feels like very loose variations, and it simply works brilliantly! The simplisity of the work, is what makes it shine I think. Some things and tricks/technique tend to be overused (like the doubling of the violin and violoncello an octave lower, for example). It sounds very good though, and because of the nature of the work it doesn't sound awkward really.

The rhythmic inconventions in the 3rd movement and irregular time signatures (as compared to the rest of course), sound also great and is a fab device really, in the premises of the work! Bar 22- in the 3rd movement is a very pleasent change! :)

The last 2 movements which get away from the conventional and the monothematic development work very very well indeed. But only because the first two movements have preceeded I think.

The scores could use a bit of work I have to say. I didn't like at all the weird font you put for the tempo, and you actually didn't keep it 'till the end. In the 3rd movement you changed to a normal font again (times new roman that is). Spelling is also a little bit strange at a few places. For example bar 23, left hand, piano, I would assume that you mean Db, rather than C#. Your chord is Db,F,Ab, not C#,F,Ab... And the score's too big. Like those books for children, etc... You could go down to 60% in Finale, if you wanted...

In all an excellent work, which I'm listening to, again and again, with no bordemom as of yet! :)

Nikola,

first of all, thanks for reviewing. Your comments are most welcome and helpful (as always)!

The live ballet was a great experience and it felt astonishing being a co-creator of such a work. The performances have been taped, so I might be able to share some footage when I get my hands on it.

Departing from standard thematic development/techniques and rhythmic structure was quite a challenge, considering that this was meant to be contemporary dance music.

About the score, I'll check it out as soon as I can (thanks for pointing out the enharmonic). :blush::blush:

Cheers!!! :)

I can only say I loved listening to it.

The main theme was great!

yrogerg, thanks for listening! :):D

I have to say, this was extremely beautiful. I think it fits the meaning of the quotation perfectly. It's something to be proud of!

Great job :)

BiddyPocket,

first of all, welcome to YC! I hope you'll enjoy your stay here! :)

And...thanks for your kind words! :blush:

Mano

I listened to this fri night,sat night and then again today to see if I could find something wrong. it took me a while, but I finally figured out what was wrong. You didn't send me plane tickets so that I could make it to the premire. Next time keep that in mind!!!

I wish I could have seen the show to go along with this. Overall, it is intricate in its simplicity and you know that I love the dissonances.

You made the journey from one end to the other very enjoyable.

Very well done

Ron

I must say, very very very very musical. I very much enjoyed it. If I were to criticize anything in this piece (i'm not sure i'm allowed). It would be the second movement when the you do an octave between all three instruments. With the richly harmonic stuff that goes on before that, I just felt it was a small distraction from the piece as a whole. I will so though, I really did enjoy all four movements. Good for you =D.

@Ron,

thanks, mate! I wish you could be there. But I'll share some footage of the show, as soon as I can get my hands on it (and I have the permission of the producer).

(and I knew you'd love the dissonance! )

Cheers, Ron!!!

@Morgri,

first of all, welcome to YC! And thanks for taking the time to listen!

Of course you can criticise! As you say, the first movement employs some orthodox voice leading. The rest of the work doesn't (the second movement if full of parallelism, for example). Ignorance is one thing. Choice is another.

(and my personal feeling is that the rich harmonic stuff occurs in the final 2 movements)

I hope that the effect wasn't ruined for you and you enjoyed the rest of the work!

Cheers!!!
