Is this an acceptable passage for orchestral harp?

Also taking into consideration this is for full orchestra, so the harp will be playing solo... sort of a reprive from the full orchestra sound. I might add some warm p to pp chords to accompany this in the strings, maybe the occasional toot from a flute or oboe, but this is pretty much a solo passage for the harp.

My concern is playability. The beat is about MM.= 112, I won't bother with a MIDI. Are the pedal changes alright? Too frequent? Laughably easy? Underneath each line I wrote in the pedal changes so I could set up the enharmonics and make sure everything is playable, but I'd like to hear some opinions from somebody that is more familiar with the instrument. Yes I realise you can't make two changes at once on one side of the harp like I have in measure 8, but is there enough time to manage this? Take a good look and let me know.

It looks alright if it is slow... If it is meant to be faster than 90 per quarter, then I would recommend against it. Otherwise, it looks fine.

EDIT- I just caught your bit about the tempo. I don't think it will be easy at all...

Measure 15 looks like the only measure that could be a problem, but I could be wrong.

What exactly is the problem there, anything that could be fixed?

Also... anybody have an idea how to write the notes following the half notes? I assume that they would be best played with the right hand (right usually plays the higher material, right? :sweat: ) but I'm not sure whether to use ledger lines, which stave to write them on, or which way to make the stems go if I put it on the bottom stave and how to indicate (in such case) that they ARE for the right hand and not the left or whether not to worry about that at all and just quite overworrying myself.

P.S. are the slurs completely unnecessary?

P.P.S. would that breath mark be clear in meaning? I want a brief pause there, just like taking a breath. Maybe buying enough time to make the pedal change.

The golden rule with the Harp is that the right hand should not be written below an F below the staff. The left can go anywhere on the instrument. Basically, use your judgment. :thumbsup:

As for anything wrong, I was worried about how rapid the pedal changes were, but I think a good harpist could handle it, if they don't completely rewrite it anyway. ;)

If you are going to put the notes for one hand on another staff, you can use "*insert hand* Hand," or simply "RH" and "LH." I tend to use a different voice as well.

Okay, in m.13, change C# to C. In m.14 change D to Db (beat 2) and G to G# (beat 3). Re-spell m.15 (and 17-20) with Db instead of C# and that will eliminate the B# pedal change in m.15-16. Re-spell m.16 with C instead of B#.

Not completely easy, but it'll be easier.
