Craic Agus Ceol

This is a fun jig I came up with and will possibly be played by my high school band. It goes from a happy jig, to a slow mellow section, to a quick minor battle. Enjoy!

I like the music, although I wish you would give a link to a mp3 so I don't have to listen thru Notepad.

Wind players do however need to take a breath from time to time. You have the clarinets going the first 7 pages without one. That would be tough for anyone.

Welcome to the forum and if I might give you a few hints, the more you comment on other people's music, the more they will comment on yours. A lot of the guys here make it a point to comment on someone's music if that person makes a comment on theirs.

Keep at it.

Wow...truly an amazing melody!! However, I must agree with what 'rolifer' said. Breaths are important to the music as well as convenient. I would advise maybe doubling up the melody line between two clarinets, for example, and have them switch off every 8 or 12 bars. Something like that...

Great brass parts, I loved every second of it! Dynamics are definitely there, and the style is great. However, look out for the tuba part at the end. I don't play tuba, but I know that it's pretty hard to play something like that on that big of an instrument.

Great job, and don't stop! :-)

In performance, I would have the clarinets stagger breathe throughout their parts. I also would have some parts doubled up. Since I don't have the full version of Finale, I can't put that many staves on the piece. =(

The tuba part would have an extreme ritard. right as it comes in for its solo, unfortunately, due to the playback of Finale, it doesn't come out as much as I anticipated.

Lastly, where breath marks would be, on playback, they were treated more so as fermatas.

thank you all so much for replying to my music!!!

I'm going to have to agree with Ron here.

There is no way a wind player can play what you are asking,

especially the clarinets. I do know about stagger breathing,

but you have 3 pages of clarinet divisi a 3, it is going to sound slightly odd.

I can understand the staggered breathing on the bass clarinet et al.

I like it; fun piece. Repetitive sure, but not only do I like it I think it adds to the whole jig feel. I hope you get this thing performed.

Cheers, Brian
