Concerto for Orchestra Movement 1

Ah justin, I always look forward to your honest critques not holding anything back. Although I do not agree with you on many of the points I feel you made some valid ones as well and I thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed analysis.

However, one thing I severely disagree with you in is your attitude towards "liking" a specific style of music or composer. You have posted earlier that you do not like Mozart and here you post that you do not like modern stuff. Don't you think it would make more sense to appreciate all kinds of music to formulate your own style and gain a wide appreciation for music as a whole? In my opinion, it is quite naive and closed-minded to stick to one way of thinking. Please think about that, and I hope you gain an appreciation for modern music and mozart soon.

Also I have taken a look at some of your pieces, especially the one performed by the NYP, and I really like your style and your use of harmony, counterpoint, and melody. Anyway, again I thank you for taking such time and effort to write a review as massive as yours.

You're welcome. Incidentally, what points do you not agree with (other than my disqualifacation of atonal music, which at this point cannot be helped)?

a few other notational issues: don't mix languages. there are some phrases with a few words in german, then some in italian. then a line later words in english.

Stick to a single language as much as possible. use english if you must, or german if that is your mother tongue, when you ABSOLUTELY cannot find an equivalent in italian.

now, about your bassoon part.

I see three bassoons playing chords, then I see a really lengthy single note line, then again 3-part chords for bassoons, then again, pages of single notes.

is that all meant to be unison? or only a single bassoon?

if it's the former, it sucks as far as orchestration is concerned.

if it's the latter, well, please indicate with either 1) or 1. or solo or 1st, or SOMETHING that says "this is to be played by one bassoon".

By the way, what's with those wide spaces in the middle of some staff systems? For example, between celli and contrabasses? or here and there between bassoon and contrabssoon?

Just to clarify,

The score I have submitted is in a really rough form. I know that it looks sloppy and the instrumental parts need to be revised more. I plan on revising this soon. So please, if anyone would like to make a critique please criticize the actual music and not the way the score looks because I know that I need to fix the score.

Thanks
