Solitude at Sea

Featured Replies

Something that is a little different from my usual. Or at least I think it is.

Here it is

Solitude at Sea.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

This is EWQL and GPO with the Piano part played by me but uses the GPO Steinway.

I will be honest and say that I did a bit more deleting of notes on the piano than I would like to admit, but since it is all white keys, I had clumsier fingers than usual.

Thanks for any and all comments.

Ron,

A more contemplative piece than some of your recent ones. Well titled. I thought there were some parts where the flow lost direction. Perhaps more could be made of the opening flute theme - there seems to be a loss of involvement part way in.

But at about two-thirds of the way through there is a very fine section that continues on to the end. I like the slower piano.

It occurs to me that you might let other instruments share some of the rapid passages - both clarinet and flute can play rapidly. As it stands only the piano gets the rapid parts but there could be an exchange of these between the piano, flute and/or clarinet say tossing a rapid motive back and forth. Just an idea.

Enjoyable, creates a good mood but might benefit from a little revision.

Commenting as I listen, I'm always fascinated that you can depict the sea's calm/storm/whatever so well. It's something I could never do. If I had one fear, it would be being on a boat in the ocean without the sight of land. I don't know what it is about it, maybe it's because I had a near death experience in water, or maybe it's because in the back of my mind I know every monstrous creature on this planet lives in the ocean. Whatever it is, I'm glad you can paint the picture so well as to give me an idea since I will avoid it at all costs. A beautiful thing I am missing out on ;)

All white keys eh? Alla Prokofiev I assume? :D

As far as your music, I think it is as majestic as the sea itself ,A lot different from your stormy sea music I have heard in the past (I think that was you). Without a score it is impossible to nit pick at it, but overall I enjoyed this throughly. It's something I could listen to driving through the mountains of Colorado. I am impressed at your craft Ron, you continue to surprise me with your authenicity as well as your talent.

Btw, go easy on the math, I wouldn't want you to not compose as often as you do. :) Very good job, can't wait to here more from you!

When I was about 9 years old. I was swimming in a lake when another kid jumped into the water on top of me. He was standing on my shoulders so I walked on the bottom over to the dock where he climbed off of me and I was able to raise to the surface and get some needed air. I guess that shows that I have never had a problem with water. I have crossed the Pacific, crossed the atlantic twice. sailed all thru the Med, the Caribean and even went from Seattle, thru the Panama Canal and up to Annapolis where I live now. I guess this is way I do enjoy composing pieces about the oceans.

I have lost count of how many times I have crossed the Rockies, but I can easily see why this also could describe that. And of course the Colorado section is just beautiful.

I have one more Math course to do and then I will have completed my studies for a good while I hope.

One last thing. I was about 200 miles south of Hawaii and we decided to go swimming. A little shark, about 6 foot, joined us and made things interesting, so I do understand about the monsters that live in the deep.

Thanks Vince, I always appreciate your comments.

Ron

Ron,

I have listened to this piece more than once, and each times, it gives me an addiction dose to those beautiful notes and atmosphere. Really feel like drifting on a raft with no land sight.

Personnaly I was picturing myself so much at the sea , that I was seeing a shark comming my way... and I would have loved to hear a ''pinnacle moment ''more contrasted with the others, But the way you wrote it, makes it feel like what it should be ''Solitude at sea''.

Meaning no encounters.....

Good thing no sharks came your way....

Amazingly well done

I have other pieces where boats almost collide and sharks attack so for this one I decided to go without any dangerous moments.

Thank you for the support
