August 12, 200817 yr Well, this piece was inspired by my chamber ensemble at school playing at assembly: I decided to write a piece for them. :D Solo Cello Oboe 2 Violins Viola Harp Triangle I love the chords in this piece, but it is quite short. What does everyone think? I would love some feedback! MP3 here --> Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire Elegy I.pdf
August 12, 200817 yr Actually I love your final chord most of this piece. It has a wonderful mood and, together with the silence just broken by the harp and the triangle before, makes a very nice ending for the piece. I like your other harmonies too; the passage after measure 19 is a bit too dissonant for my ears but that's a matter of taste, I think. The following (measure 21 to 24) appears to me a bit "simple": I just don't like your harp voice there (just chords played upside down and quints in the lower stave) and maybe the triangle could play an a bit more varied rythm (e.g. 2 eights instead of one quarter sometimes...). But I like the sound of the oboe playing molto staccato and your cello voice measure 5 to 8 or the crescendo of the pizz. voices in m. 16! Overall it's a really good piece and I think the selection of instruments is really interesting. I hope my critics were constructive and didn't annoy you;)
August 13, 200817 yr Author thanks olibrehm! that was helpful; i'll go over the score again and have a look at those parts. I did try to keep the harp part quite simple (our player is not too advanced). I am dissonant in my tastes though, but I think the majority of the piece is pretty stable and tonal. THANKS again!
