5 Duos for Flute and Clarinet- I. Molto adagio

Featured Replies

The first in a set of duos for flute and clarinet in A, a short slow movement that acts as a prelude. I'm not sure about the octave in measure 2, but ehhhhhh.

Commenting while listening.

It sounds like something you would hear on scooby doo for some reason.

OTHER than that, I liked it.

I really don't know what else to say =\

I liked the fact that it wasn't unnecessarily dissonant and that you associated dissonance with movement (which is how it should be). Also, there was a motif that I grabbed onto, so it wasn't boring to listen to it. The movement is a little bit bland though, it's all just staggered motion. Maybe some simultaneous motion would be more interesting.

Also, it wasn't so preludish (Baroque) as I thought it could be. You had a cool interval motif at the beginning, (I think an augmented 6th interval??) but yeah, it was gone almost from recognizable shape.

More recognizable independent lines would make the piece way more interesting.

Okay, firstly first, I shall admit that this is not the type of music I listen to...

However, I quite like it. It's definitely interesting, I mean it's long enough to be enjoyed and short enough to distract you.

The interplay/conversation between the flute and the clarinet thing is pretty cool. Although, I agree with Maelstrom that a little bit of togetherness would be cool too. I guess you might have already thought of that for the following movements.

Scorewise, it's pretty neatly presented. First and second systems' gap could be a bit bigger. Slurs are pretty much an indication of the breath spots. And yeah, great job, Voce!

So when do we get to hear the next duo?

I liked this piece. Personally it doesn't get anything emotional out of me, but it deffinently is very interesting. The dissonances and the interplay between the two instruments. I can't really think of any criticism...You have the flute in the same register for the whole piece and the clarinet below it so maybe you could mix that up a little bit, but I don't know what you're planning for the rest of the movements.

Wow. That was really interesting.

That's a good thing. Really. MIDI sucks, so it doesn't do this justice. If you were to hear it in real life, man that would be really tight.

However, I really think that right now, the flute and the clarinet are totally separate, like, two separate lines, or two separate...."rivers" if you will. Each "river" of sound is flowing completely independent of the other, which, I guess, isn't a bad thing...but to have a sense of cohesiveness, it is advisable to have them come together once in a while. Even just once.

Otherwise, you've got it goin' on. Keep it up!

Voce -

This is excellent work and exhibits a lyrical serialism (though it isn't serialism). I like the independence of each line and how there is sooo much room to breathe. I love the final note - nice consonance and concludes the piece well.

Only suggestion is to have it read by players to refine articulations and some dynamics.

Please write more!!!!!! Especially for other movements employ serial like procedures to the rhythmic values for greater contrast
