Creepy minds

Featured Replies

i did this piece right after watching the dark knight in theater with my friends, and i was totally amazed by heath ledger's performance, he gave me the creeps indeed lol...so i decided to go home and put all my emotions in a musical piece, i tried to work on it using my own mind "out of respect for the amazing composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard" who did an outstanding work for the movie...so i decided to make something creepy, fuzzy and filled with a touch of middle eastern taste as it's my origin and i'm proud to say that i'm highly influenced by it.

go to this link and check it out

Dusk Viper- Music, Video, Photos & News at MyMusicStream then choose the track "creepy minds"

of course feel free to send me critics and feedbacks considering what u think about it or whether u wanna know the vst plugins i used to create it;) looking forward to hearing from u all.

Edward Newton Howard?

u see what happened when u mix business with liquor lol

"james newton howard"

my appologies

I also made a piece after watching the Dark Knight... with the exception that mine follows the style of Zimmer and Howard. Mine is more than just being inspired and influenced. It's somewhere in the incidental forums if you're up for it, "Joker, Gotham Menace".

Back to your piece... pretty nice overall, a little messy in certain areas. Some of the strings and brass don't quite run well together. But I really really enjoy your production of your electronic sounds, not so much on the orchestral parts. Also, is that your voice? You need to decrease the amount of reverb on that voice, it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the instruments with the amount of reverb.

I get less of a feeling from that "creepy minds" as the name of this track suggests, but more of something dark like Sin City or Max Payne.

Like I said before, kudos to you for the excellent work with the electronic sounds. Since you seem to be very proud (which you should be) of your vsti use, let me be the one to ask what plugins you used.

thanx for your interesting critic Kaiyoti, i heard ur "Joker, Gotham Menace" piece and u really should be proud by of it...it matches the dark mode of the batman character and the psychotic character of the joker indeed.

as for my piece, i used lots of vsts on this one,

for the drum beats i used DFH " drum kit from hell" EZ drummer

for the pads i used ewql outer limits -as u may notice in the intro-

for the lead guitars i used ewql colossus Blumaster lead mixed with fender buzz chug and i tracked them both to the same mixer channel with amplitube 2 carlos amp as thier main FX

for the big hits and the percussions i used stormdrum and ethno world 3 bendir drums

for the orchestral work i used both miroslav philharmonic and vienna, and i believe that i intended to do it in a messy way so as to make the listener disturbed and confused about the nature of the atmosphere i'm giving

and i noticed that u asked about the voice and hell no it's not my voice " u don't wanna hear my singing pal..lol" it's a voice from a sampled library called " oriental world" a very cool plugin if ur lookin for the eastern flavours for ur mixs and i guess i went far with the reverb as u said , i guess i wanted to give it some certain kind of depth, but if ur having another opinion about what i should do with it, i'd be glad to hear any

as for the synths i mainly used morphine and some other synths from the colossus library.

so that should be enough as for now of course that's not all.... i used some more plugins for the pads and some other lofi fxs for the percussions and the guitars.

i'd really recommend listening to another piece i did called " lost and found" u should find it in the same forum i'd use any feedbacks on this one might as well, looking forward to hearing from u

Guess I was wrong about the production, not that it's bad, just that I thought you recorded the guitar and voice yourself. Fooled me though. Good job.

Nice job man, I agree with Kaiyoti about the electronics, they were definitely well produced.

I'm going to be a bit nit-picky here since I couldn't find much wrong with the track at all. One thing I noticed, and maybe it's just my speakers since I'm on my laptop, but it seemed to me that you didn't have much fluctuation in MIDI velocity. One of the primary elements of live performance is that the performer attacks each note at different levels of velocity. Most high end sample libraries have different samples on each patch to reflect different attacks. A little bit of fluctuation here and there. (though not too much!), particularly in the strings and guitar would definitely add to this track and increase the sense of phrasing. Another thing I noticed was that you could probably legato your strings a bit by slightly overlapping the note values. The sharp change from note to note screams MIDI to me. You said you intended to do the orchestral stuff in a messy way to disturb and confuse the listener, but I didn't get that feeling so much. I was kind of pulled out of the moment by the MIDI.

Overall, very nice track. I especially liked the addition of the voice, it added a nice extra dimension to the track.

Thanx Andy1044 for your contribution on my thread here, actually i'm working on doing some " home made " articulations for my orchestral strings for both miroslav philharmonic and vienna for both the attacks and the sustains, i'm actually new to the orchestral works but i just love to do it - to be honest i'm mad about it- so yeah u'll find lots of legatos on my up comming tracks,

also as for the guitar, i wrote the solo myself with the midi using the sound source from the colossus sample library and changed the amp and the cabinet for it virtually big time, so yeah u can say that it was a trick " as Kaiyoti said earlier but it worked..lol:thumbsup:

so....guys i'm really interested to hear about what u think of the first track i added which is " lost and found ", i never got a qoute about it till now..and it's kinda important to me, so if u please check it out on the forum and feedback me;)
