Theme for String Orchestra

I decided to work out this little theme for a string orchestra (I hope that I can maybe get my school's orchestra to try and perform it at some time in the future...)

I really, really like this. I play viola and I would LOVE to play this sometime, but why didn't the viola get to play at the end like the other strings? :(

This is for string orchestra? How many strings exactly. If you want the piano heard between that many strings you should really use it percussively. In an orchestral setting, unless it's a concerto, the piano is usually used percussively. Other than that, I think it's a really solid piece.

Well, to that I must say that we're a very small "orchestra" actually - for example there is just one viola :blush: and all in all not more than 13 people or so (including the conductor:D) - so the piano (which I play) can always be heared pretty well...

I'm also not perfectly sure what percussive means for the piano. Probably means just playing chords doesn't it? In that case look at the score again: The piano plays (exept its solo at the beginning) only a melody that's in a string voice too, so that's not really important to hear. And the passage from m.59 to 75 is percussive in my understanding...

One could probably also call this piece a "piano quartet" (or string quartet with piano...) and play the voices with solo strings, I'm really not an expert in these formal matters:D

I disagree on the piano part, I think it's geat to use the piano in a more melodic way and not necceserily percussively with strings, I think it works really well in this composition, it gives a sort of mystical feeling to it.
