Hello all!

This is my first post to the chamber music forum.

This is a piece I wrote summer 2007 while at Interlochen. Originally it was for 2 celli and 2 flutes. I ended up going a bit too high on one cello, so I rescored it, adding in a violin, which enabled me to alter some colors.

It's in the sonata form I favor, which repeats the exposition but not the development. The first theme is a mournful, folk type melody in b. After some transitional material, the second theme appears in a sunny D Major. The development begins by playing the first theme in d, then expanding it from 4/4 to 5/4, and going into the octatonic scale for further development.

The recording was live in a classroom. My classmates were practically sightreading, which just goes to show how talented they were. :)

It's definitely something different, which is always nice. I really liked the first melody and how you transferred it to the violin at the end of the first section. That really made a nice color. There are some parts that seem a little strange as far as tone towards the end (especially between the two cellos), but I think it might just be the recording. Overall, I think it's a good piece, and the instrumentation works very nicely.

It's a nice exploration of the folk-songish theme, and the writing for your particular ensemble is really good - I definitely like the texture of the violin in there. Perhaps I thought it got a little lost 3/4 of the way through, but overall I liked it very much. :D

This kind of style really appeals to me. b31 is like heaven! also, the sffz chords really worked. The chord after the buildup at b111 was also really nice; the harmonic detours were interesting, and this worked kept my attention all the way through. It helps having real instruments play it as well. Really nice!
