New Waltz for Classical Orch.

Hi everyone I have just started a waltz for our young composer's competition at our high school, it is far away from now (like in May), but I'd like to get a head start. I am a senior and I've played oboe for 9 years now, percussion for 5 years and just started tenor sax in our jazz band. I wanted to know if you guys could help me with this song. Thanks.

It is not bad,but you may want to try something new,like at the seond part playing with the intervals or introduce something new.If you would like to know more personal message me.

Actually, I loved it. I specifically like the rather "crude" way of having the whole piece go on over the same continued harmony (I respectively I46), regardless of the internal harmonic changes of the melody. This makes it sound not very "sophisticated", but that's exactly what I love about it. It's direct and uses some clichees rather excessively. I know this can all be heard as a critique, but believe me, it's not. I actually like listening to it again and again.

If you -were- going for something more "sophisticated", my advice would be to have a look at the melody again and see what harmonies it suggests, and then changing the accompanying parts in the saxes, horns, timpani, and strings accordingly. Another would be varying the dynamics more, and playing around with orchestrating the same things differently - especially reducing the orchestra to a few instruments at times. HOWEVER - personally, I wouldn't do any of these things. I'd leave it exactly how it is - but realize that in this case it has a somewhat bizarre quality that you might not have intended originally.

Thanks. Yeah that's a big problem for me, I'm afraid that it's too simple and I'm only using 1 to 2 chords which I guess leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure of the chord progressions of other waltzes but the only progression I know is (I, IV, V7, I).

Also, the midi/Sibelius misplays the trills on the flute, oboe, bell/xylo triplet-trill sequence. It is playing it as C/C# instead of C/D. Anyway of fixing this? Thanks.

Select the trill itself and go to the "Properties" window view (the little checkbox in the bank of icons up there). Here you can select the number of half steps that the trill will alternate between, under the playback section. Set half steps to 2.
