EWQLSO [Play] Sibelius Sound Set Now Available

I am very pleased to announce Sibelius Sound Sets for all versions of the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra PLAY Edition are now available for download.

Work on these Sound Sets dates back to March of this year. Numerous Sound Sets were created while trying to find the best way to incorporate the Symphonic Orchestra library, and I'm confident these completed Sound Sets balance ease of use with flexibility in order to provide the best experience possible.

The Sound Sets can be downloaded here: http://jonathanloving.googlepages.com/

---

In addition to the PLAY Edition, Sound Sets for all versions of the Native Instruments powered Orchestra will be available at some point in the future for Kontakt 2 or Kontakt 3 users. These are based on the PLAY Sound Sets, but modified for compatibility with the original programming.

---

I welcome any questions, comments, or suggestions you have in regard to the Sound Sets, but ask that you contact me directly to share these rather than using the forums as the sole means of discussion. My only reason for this is that I can't guarantee how often I'll be checking the forums and may miss your comments or questions.

EWQLSO [Play] Sound Set Update 11/24

The user manual and Platinum multi files have been updated. You can download the most recent versions here: http://jonathanloving.googlepages.com/

User Manual Changes:

- Vista installation directory corrected

- By request, indicated "Manuscript Paper" folder may need to be created during installation.

- Added folder names for .ewi multi installation; additional instructions for Platinum users.

- Score setup instructions now indicate the Playback Configuration must be set up before creating a score using one of the provided templates.

Platinum Multi Changes:

- Platinum multis are now separated by instrument family into 4 folders. This allows for a faster and easier installation for users who have the library split across multiple drives or systems.

What's Next:

An "elements" file for each multi will be included to enable those running PLAY as a plugin to load all four multis for each score template. The user can than select which articulations to activate and load as needed.

so this is to be able to use your copy of EWQLSO within Sibelius?

Bryan,

Sound Sets are how Sibelius 'talks' to the various plugins. The sound set details all aspects of the library from keyswitches to MIDI controllers and right on down the list. Essentially, this allows for as much direct-from-score playback as possible.

There are certain limitations because Sibelius cannot communicate with PLAY to the same degree it can communicate with Kontakt 2 or 3, or Kontakt Player 2, however the sound set is simplifies the process a great deal.

Jussi Lampela, (quoted below) who was on the sound sets Beta-testing team, shared his thoughts on the Sib chat page as well: Direct Link

As Jon describes in the manual for the soundset, there are some limitations that have to be dealt with, with a library of such large scope. Despite these limitations, it is already possible to create mockups of a very high quality, straight from the Sibelius, using standard musical terms. Now that the soundset is in working condition, You don

Ha ha... well if I had EWQLSO I would... But I don't, yet.

If and when I do, I will try this out in Sibelius. However, I will probably revert to sequencing.

Bryan,

Well that would make it difficult, wouldn't it :D

I would imagine you would continue with your sequencer, I do :) In fact, I don't use Sibelius at all for audio production, and beyond testing don't use these sound sets at all personally.

This in no way is intended as a replacement for sequencing, as I feel notation programs such as Sibelius just don't cut it on the audio side of things. At the same time though, this is something the EastWest community has been asking for for quite some time now.

A few years later and no sound set had presented itself, which I believe is largely due to an overall lack of understanding of the new Sibelius playback system.

So I'm just filling the gaps of missing resources - but by all means keep your sequencer - that's the only way to do serious audio work.

Hi Jon,

I'm a ghost youngcomposers.com member :) Thanks very much for the sound set. I have been wanting to have one for a while now, and decided I was going to have to do it myself - unfortunately, I have little time for such endeavors now, being out of school and *gasp* working. I'm also planning on upgrading to the gold play version in a few weeks, so this came with great timing.

Thanks for posting.

My Pleasure, Paul :)

A lot of credit to the beta team for catching my boneheaded mistakes and John Philpit for cranking the manual out in a very short time as well. Couldn't have come together this well without those guys :)

Don't hesitate to email me, or post with any questions you have.
