Marche Funebre- Help!

Featured Replies

Hi!

This is my first post!:w00t:

Unfortunately, the piece is in only in the rough beginnings of orchestration. It is Marche Funebre, a sombre and dramatic piece in C minor. I have the first 35 or so bars orchestrated. I want to use all of the themes I have in here, but I think some of them are in the wrong places, created cheesy sounding harmonies so please disregard my improper placing of them. I have not added many articulation marks yet, so it is kind of dry sounding (especially the solo violin part at the end- try to imagine it more passionate)

Remember: This is NOT a finished piece. This will NOT be the final orchestration.

I liked your themes, especially the first one. The one starting at 23, is ok, but it could get boring if it is overused because it is just sequencing.

Are you just presenting all the themes in the beginning and developing them later? If so I guess it works, but it seems rushed to me. You have three ideas in 30 measures; if you are just trying to present them all for later developmenth then ignore this. I would spend a lot more time on each idea, exploring each in depth. Think about structure too, how do the themes play into that, and be careful of sequences. They are good in small doses/ when they are well done, but they can get boring quickly.

I like your basso ostinato type deal, and you have good ideas, but be careful of just pasting stuff together, try to make your piece organic.

Thank you!

I was just putting all of these ideas forward. They won't just be crammed together like that, but still you are giving very good advice.

I was considering adding a chorus at some point. What do you think?
