Hello. This is my first post. My name is Ben. I'm 21 and I go to school for composition and theory. Here are three pieces I have written for assignments in the past few months. Sorry for the strange names file names.

1) Sonata Exposition for my theory III class (piano)

2) Piece for my theory IV class, employing 20th century compositional techniques. (it falls apart at the end, I know) (piano)

3) second movement of a piece for comp I, parameters are piece for single lined instrument, no key signature, no time signature, no (overt) spelling of triads, no major or minor tonality, though a tonal center can be implied. (cello)

4) first movement of second piece for comp I, due in a week. Same rules apply as first piece, though more lenient. It's program music. It is the music to personify (is there an equivalent musical term?) working a mundane 9-5 assembly line-esque job, the daily routine, through it coming to an end. (clarinet and bassoon)

Any comments, criticisms, (not specific to the adherence of following the guidelines of the assignment) thoughts, etc. would be nice.

(.mus are available for anyone who wants.)

No interest?

dude, the sonata is AWESOME! i love it! great job

um, besides the sonata, and the program piece (which was very haunting, btw--really cool), the others were okay. keep up the good work!

Thank you very much. Could I please get some more reviews?

ok,

Sonata-Good classical sounding sonata, nothing particularly interesting to me, but shows your understanding of the form, two themes, etc. and uses the tonal language correctly. a fine composition.

the twentieth century piece-starts off very exciting and uses some nice ideas. Throughout the piece there are similarly creative ideas that work very well. However, it feels random and not connected. The ideas seem to jump from one to another with no rhyme or reason and twentieth century ideas are not just about being weird. I feel you could have had a nice piece here if you were able to connect the ideas a little bit more fluidly.

I skipped the third piece. The fourth I feel accomplished your goal, but got a little bit boring as it went on. Perhaps this is fitting for the idea of a normal mundane work day.

Good work overall
