O Come, All Ye Faithful

Featured Replies

Hi there! This is a preliminary arrangement for a commission of mine. I am going for a jazz style arrangement. I also apologize in advance for not setting the text yet. Thank you!

O come, All Ye Faithful.MUS

It was like...you set the melody with some decent harmonies, then at the end you just tacked on a bunch of other chords that you didn't have a place for in the rest of the music. There's nothing wrong with a cadence but it was like, a significant percentage of the piece.

And what's with the random quarter note at the end of the soprano's part? It really doesn't fit to my ears.

I thought it was to make the Maj 7 chord to fit with the style instead of ending on just a major chord. I enjoyed it. It would be hell to tune and keep those sops on the G for so long... but it would sound pretty cool. And, I think the F sharp is pretty cool at the end. very contemporary vision, I loved it!

Thanks for the replies!

This piece was a challenge to try and balance the harmonies. Thats why you'd see a bass on a low G in one measure, and then be on the octave in the next. I really strived to make those chords make sense in the listeners ears, why creating diversity, AND giving it a sense of returning " home" after the little progression at the end.
