A landscape of Mont Saint-Michel

Featured Replies

Hey, I was inspired to write a piece depicting Mont Saint-Michel, a stunning town in the North of France. The composition is very French in style (I think) and I've gotten a good deal down already. Trouble is, I've exhausted my theme for the time being and don't know where to go next. Perhaps some of you have a good idea? Is my writing for harp too idiomatic?

Thanks in advance!

I like what you have so far and it does sound very french, kind of reminiscent of Ravel's Pavane. Maybe you could build some more off of the staccato thing. Go into a brighter section and derive another theme out of that motif or something.

And about the harp, I think that the harp is good for only one thing, and thats that kind of effect. Personally, I think anything else sounds weird.

I actually enjoyed quite a bit of this. It does sound French in character and I rather like the main theme. The biggest problem for me though was, looking through the score, there was not a single note outside of G Major. Staying in one key without any dissonance for close to 4 minutes can be very tiring and around the 2:40 mark or so, I started getting a tad bored. Modulation is always a good way to vitalize a dying theme. Other than that, I'd say you also started to lose a clear direction after the first few minutes. I didn't really feel like it was taking me anywhere and it seemed kind of confused about what it wanted to say. Other than that though, I thought it was a great start.

I agree with the posters above (the theme reminds me a lot of pour une enfante d
