A solo for clarinet

Featured Replies

I have just written a clarinet solo for my friend to perform at his school recital.

I have used elements of serial music and chromaticism.Dynamics is up to the player to decide.

I need your feedback or suggestion on how could i countinue this solo or any changes i would have to make.

Players

This written for Bb clarinet

Recommended tempo would be crotchet 100 per minute.

I don't know how experienced your friend is at playing the clarinet, but be careful writing in the altissimo register (C above the staff and up). You've written a high F to G trill-- I'm certainly not the best of clarinetists but I've played for seven years and I can't play that trill without squeaking. Just clear that with your friend first.

Otherwise it's very good.

The trill from high F to G is very simple; just move your left second finger.

Shows how much I know...

That isn't high at all. That's a pretty standard register, I've written higher parts for "lower level" players at my university and they sounded fine.
