FH-Op 2 N 3 in A Minor Harmonic 7

Featured Replies

Hello !

Here a composition of me, I wish you will like :)

The Midi : FH-Op 2 N 3 Intro in A Minor Harmonic 7.mid

The Mp3 : jesper_007 - FH-Op 2 N 3 Intro in A Minor Harmonic 7 - SoundCloud

The Score : FH-Op 2 N 3 Intro in A Minor Harmonic 7.pdf

There were some interesting moments, but overall it sounded very ambiguous. Is it supposed to be in A minor it seems more like Bb minor to me? Overall, i never really heard much tonality.

The score is very sloppy also. The ties or slurs or whatever they are are very unnecessary and make the score overly cluttered and confusing. The key signature for A minor is no sharps or flats, but i am not even sure if this is what you intended. I am not sure what key you were intending to end in, but E major is not what i heard.

To be honest, listening to it, I couldn't find any sort of direction or even singable melody in the work. It seemed almost like random notes thrown together. If that's what you're going for (the music seems very atonal, and as I'm not a fan, I don't listen to a lot of it, so I don't know what's common, etc.).

Also, the piece doesn't resolve really - again, seems like you're hitting random notes.

Finally, I tried to sight read the score and epically failed. It needs a massive cleanup.

The intro part Is supposed to be in A minor Harmonic 7, I don't know why it seem Atonal or random?

I think there is a chord progression, wasn't my purpose to make an atonal piece ;).

I agree with Cody that the score is not so clean , I forgot to clean the unnecessary ties/slurs

How much of the basics of musical theory do you know?

There are a lot of notation issues that go quite a bit beyond having all those hanging ties/slurs.

For example, you have sharps in your key signature, but write the whole thing with added flats on the notes.

I'm also not sure what exactly you mean by "Is supposed to be in A minor Harmonic 7".

There is "harmonic minor", but there is no such key as "harmonic minor 7".

I can sort of make out what you are intending here. The notation, as QC and others said, really prevents much in the way of actually viewing your material.. It looks to me that you were doing a sort of variations on an ostinato, up until measure 27 (at which point the entire thing just sort of collapsed) . Your apparent cadence at measure 22 does not help the music move along but instead stops the flow of the music which you have established. Was that your intent?

In a way, it looks as almost if you made the mistakes intentional. When I open with Sibelius, the midi, it displayed the piece enharmonically transposed to the same pitches (A# instead of Bb opening) - which made more sense - and clearly showed the ostinato pattern and its permutations throughout the piece.

Yeah this is definitely b flat minor

this piece isn't my bag of tea, I found it very ADD. the half-melody in the beginning didn't really continue and it became really hard to follow and to me the cords didn't really make much sense, your two voices didn't really connect either.

that's just my personal taste in composition style though, Im not someone that beliefs in absolute right or wrong in music composition

Yes !!! your analysis is consistent and accurate for this piece, The missing piece of the puzzle is that after composing it I transpose it to the "Super Locrian bb7" (Harmonic Minor Mode 7) Scale this influenced the modality of this piece ! , after measure 27 I did try to reflect the shadow of the melody in many way (changing the key...), maybe I didn't success to keep the rhythmic-melodic pattern that I used like Ostinato, It miss some harmonic cadence at the end, well I'll try to updated it :)

Ps :

I also appreciate your debate about Atonal Music , you rock !

i have only heard the midi, and did not see the score......

but seriously, it sounds so Bb minor. O_O

A minor?? O_____O"

but i dont have perfect pitch. so i might be wrong.
