Transpose key.

Hello everybody,

I have yamaha clavinova clp 230 and sometimes I like to play some compositions with transpose key values = 4 or 6. In real upright or

grand piano is there anyway to do this? Sorry if this question

is silly, but I really need to know.

There is no mechanism in any kind of mechanical piano I am aware of that can transpose.

(Well, the left "una corda" pedal of a grand piano moves the hammers sideways, so I guess you technically could expand this mechanism to move the hammers sideways even more, to make a transposing mechanism out of it. But again, I'm not aware of any piano that does this.)

So if you have to tranpose a piece on a mechanical piano, you'll actually have to play in a different key. Unless you want to retune the whole piano (which usually isn't really an option).

I swear I've heard of a transposition mechanism before, I swear to Desklamps. I don't know where or when, but I swear I have. Somebody HAS to have tried it somewhere... I swear.... if I only I could remember...

To second that response: No, your average grand piano or another other not non-standard acoustic piano cannot do this.

I just googled "transposing piano". But prior to seeing this thread, I had never heard of such a thing, nor have I seen one live (obviously).

So, I'd like to third the two replies above.
