January 12, 200917 yr Hello, I'm new to this site/forum. I have written choral songs before for my choir. I draw my writing styles primarily from Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre (as does most young composers I'm sure). I'm open to criticism and such. Let me know what you think! I am also a huge fan of Sara Teasdale's poetry and am also in love with this poem 'Joy' that I have set for SSAATTBB chorus! I am wild, I will sing to the trees, I will sing to the stars in the sky, I love, I am loved, he is mine, Now at last I can die! I am sandaled with wind and with flame, I have heart-fire and singing to give, I can tread on the grass or the stars, Now at last I can live! Finale 2007 - [i am wild.pdf i am wild.MUS I am Wild.MID
January 12, 200917 yr I'm in a pretty similar position to you, Lauridsen, Tichelli, and Whitacre really inspire me. I'm a fan of the style they use - it's just so...epic. I really like how you have the voices play off of each other, going back and forth, etc. My only concern is that it doesn't really have that much discernible development - it kind of stagnates about half-way through. But only kind of, if you know what I mean. I'd love to hear a recording if you ever get one. ~Christian
January 12, 200917 yr I've really enjoyed your work! It has a beatyfull style and great atmosphers. I'm a big Lauridsen's and Whitacre's fan too. I hope you keep uploading this kind of works. (Excuse my poor English!)
January 13, 200917 yr This is my first comment on someone's work, so this is kind of cool!! I enjoyed your piece. Lauridsen is amazing, so I can not fault you in the slightest. Same for Whitacre. The piece is very cool and has its positive aspects. Voice exchange is nice, and I like how all parts have a time to shine at some point. I do think that this piece could have been made more dramatic by taking advantage of the clashes you use throughout. There are some beautiful clashes and suspensions, but they don't quite resolve to the most powerful chord. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it's like this... You build this deep tension between the parts and one's ear, or at least my ear, wants to hear it settle on some sort of "home" chord, whether that be dominant, sub dominant or dominant, and a lot of times in your piece, it doesn't quite do that. It has a tendency to move from one clash and resolve to another one, and it kind of throws you off. That's really my biggest qualm, but the fundamentals of this piece are very strong. Great work!!
