composer for X-mas melody wanted

Featured Replies

As mentioned elsewhere on this site - Composers of evergreen X-mas tunes become filthy rich from radio royalties.

I need a composer to set music to these lyrics, for something we have all longed for: A post Christmas tune to be played incessantly the week after the Yuletide.

Set these words to music and e-mail me the resulting sound file. Remember to give it a melodic and Christmasy feel (sleighbells? the more clich

i've written a couple of months ago a christmas melody really cute... we can suite your words on the originals i made in italian, but i think the music its a bit melanconic... it's a stuff i've composed expecting christmas, not laughing after and about christmas...

Hahaha! I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These lyrics are so well written and really relatable (so impressed right now. You wrote this all by yourself?). I love the imagery and common Christmas events throughout (Adore the lyrics: "As you watch Uncles Ernie and Leo ..hug each other in a fond embrace and remembering old grudges.. they punch each other in the face"... reminds me of the Grumpy Old Men movie. Honestly, who doesn't have two fighting relative rivals in a family?). When's the date that you need a music file for this lyric by?

I'll definitely give this a go, but just wondering, do you need like, me singing the song over some chords or just a pdf and midi file from finale? Or would either do?

edit: also, if we have to remove/add some "the"s and "and"s to fit the cadence/phrasing better, is that okey dokey?

Anyone who wants to give it a go is welcome.

Let me explain what I hope for most; a jolly sprightly memorable melody that can be whistled and hummed. (Think of Sleigh Ride or Joy to the World.)

A lot to ask for I know, especially given the limiting cadence of the words.

Yes, the words can be changed somewhat, lines shortened.

As for the form, I'm mainly interested in a melody and perhaps an arrangement. The singing or performance is secondary as most composers are not necessarily performers.

I'd like to have something by April.

Haven't read the lyrics, yet... but wouldn't it be better to find a good collaborator first and then work on this song specifically? Even if it's just listening to someone else's music to see if they'd fit this song. Rather than having five people send you music and then just picking the one you like.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but it shows a lack of respect. The relationship between composer/lyricist and music/lyrics is an intimate one, it requires give and take so the words are truly married to the music, not just sitting on top. And so the music enhances the lyric, not just serves it as something to sing. It sounds like you're running a contest right now. When you collaborate on a song, you're not just hiring a composer to slap music on your words, you're working together to create a new whole.

Remember, it's a collaboration.

Well Doc, I appreciate your advice and sentiments.. but I have in fact listened to many compositions here and contacted a few composers. One or two were interested but have no time at the moment. Another said he will perhaps concoct something.

There are a lot of perhapses in life.

So, as I'd like something by May I have to attempt composer contacts in a variety of ways. What you suggest is ideal.. if I want to spread the process out over several years.

All I'm saying is it might be better to post the lyrics here, discuss the lyrics, critique the lyrics, rewrite the lyrics, etc. And while doing that drum up some kind of interest and start a dialogue with composers who are interested and listen to their music, their thoughts on the piece, rather than having people just compose on spec for you. Even if it takes a month to find someone, that leaves plenty of time for you two to work on finishing one song by May.

I'm still looking for a composer with a strong melodic sense for these. No ambitious takers?

I'll give it a go. Does it have to include guitar, bass and drums? Or can it be orchestra (not 50 instruments, maybe 15)

You have some really good ideas...it could do really well. The only problem I have is the use of God's name. If I could change it to goodness I might work with some of these lyrics, but if not I just don't feel comfortable writing it.

I'd prefer orchestral instruments to electric ones..

I respect your beliefs but I can't believe a kind God would also be so touchy. don't make him into a Grumpy Old Dad.
