EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sibelius Sound Sets Now Available

EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sibelius Sound Sets Now Available I'm happy to announce that sound sets for all versions of the original EWQL Symphonic Orchestra are finished and available for download. Dating back nearly a year, this particular sound set project kept growing larger right up until the last few weeks. The entire project consists of 22 different Sound Sets, and 6 House Styles.

Sound Set Highlights:

  • Fully supports sample auto-loading (Mac and PC)
  • 2 sound sets for each version, a "full" and a "lite" to make this accessible on every system
  • House Style with extended Playback Dictionary: switch Mic positions, articulations, and access every aspect of the library directly from the score
  • Fully mapped custom Percussion staves: Enter notes with the mouse or via MIDI keyboard and Sibelius will notate it correctly
  • Tutorial videos will be available shortly for anyone having trouble setting up the autoloading or working with the sound sets

The Sound Sets can be downloaded here: http://jonathanloving.googlepages.com

N.B. These Sound Sets are for Kontakt 2 and Kontakt 3 users only. They are not compatible with the Kompakt player included with EWQLSO.

Feel free to contact me with any questions about the sound sets: soundsets(at)jonathanloving.com

And for the KOMPACT version of EWQL ? what can I do ?

And for the KOMPACT version of EWQL ? what can I do ?

The decision not to make a sound set compatible with the Kompakt player was made based on the limitations imposed by Kompakt, the amount of time it takes to write the sound set did not justify the very small improvement in performance.

You can still use the Kompakt player in Sibelius though, you'll just need to define your own Manual Sound Set within the Playback Devices options. Instructions to do this are available in the Sibelius Reference PDF file included with your installation.

Any possibilities to use the library of EWQL Kompakt in Kontakt ???

Any possibilities to use the library of EWQL Kompakt in Kontakt ???

As a registered user of EWQLSO you're eligible for a reduced-price "Crossgrade" to the full version of Kontakt 3. K3 will be able to load and play the EWQLSO sounds and is fully compatible with the sound set. Note that the Kontakt Player 2 included with Sibelius cannot use the EW sounds - the full version of Kontakt is required.

Can you put on site the version of 32bits? Gold Edition!

Thanks!

Can Kontakt 2 load the EWQL Kompakt libraries??

Any way to do this on Mac?

There is no difference in sound sets for 32bit or 64bit systems. The user manual indicates what .reg file is for each system type. Except for this file, installation and use is identical.

Can Kontakt 2 load the EWQL Kompakt libraries??

Yes, Kontakt 2 can load the EW samples. Again, do note that Kontakt 2 and Kontakt Player 2 are not the same application - Kontakt Player 2 cannot load the samples.

Full installation instructions for Mac users are provided in the sound set user manual included in the download.

Jared at SynthGnosis who did the tutorial runs an all PC studio so currently providing a video for Mac installation is not something he can do. We recognize that this leaves many users without a visual aid, and are hoping to provide both Mac and PC users with tutorials for this and future sound sets.

But when I restart Sibelius and it try to restore the playback configuration, ( very long time!) sometime it crashes.

If I delete all the playback configurationi in Application data I can restart Sibelius easily.

Please, I'd like to use only 1 staff for the percussion, and put snare, cymbal, ecc . together, how can I do it ??

Thanks for all the help.

While the problems may not stem from these files, any time a user is 'poking around' in a programs installation directory there stands a chance that something else may be unknowingly altered. This risk is avoided completely if the files are placed in the user settings directory, which is where Sibelius would place them if the actions were done inside the program.

Is Sibelius loading any sounds at this point in the start cycle? If it is, it means you've saved a playback configuration while sounds were loaded. The solution, as you've done, is to delete the configuration and create it again.

You might also consider using the "Lite" sound sets which were designed for systems that don't have the power under hood to run all of the keyswitch patches.

The short answer is "No", but let me explain why.

Percussion staves in Sibelius can only read from one drum map. Each patch has its own drum map, so each drum map is limited to the sounds of the patch it's assigned to. Except for the "Various Percussion" and "Various Metals" patches, none of the unpitched percussion patches in EWQLSO mix instrument types - each patch is one instrument with a variety of articulations and playing techniques.

An alternative would be to use the 3 individual staves for playback of your score, and when it comes time to format and print, create a new 5 line percussion staff and copy the other parts to it. Notate them on this staff however you prefer, and then triple-click the staff, go to the Playback section of the Properties window, and de-select the option "Play on Pass: 1". You can then hide the individual staves so they do not print but will still playback, and the 5-line staff will print but will not playback.

May be it's possible use 1 staff and change the name of the percussion instrument at any bar ... (?) This is common in some symphonic scores.

What's the better way to use the Kontakt sound set with others VST, for example Kontakt2 + Pianoteq + Synful Orchestra ... ???

I want to use Vienna Special edition too, how can I use it ? is possible to import the sounds in Kontakt2 ??

Thanks.

You could do this using instrument changes, but would still be limited to one instrument at a time per staff.

Each different library will require a separate instance of that libraries player. Beyond that you just set each instance to use the desired sound set.

It's best to use the Vienna Ensemble application along with the Special Edition sound sets. I recently worked with the guys at Vienna and we made some changes/error corrections in the sound sets. I don't know when the updated sets will be posted but you should definitely look for them.

You are a good programmer for this things.

Every thing OK now in my configuration, but play a digital orchestra in a expressive way

need something more..... !

Sorry may be I go off-topic now but I want suggest you :

What about a software to use the Wii as baton for conducting digital orchestra ? ( see : Fauxharmonic ! )

We need a software for control in realtime the musical tempo and the intensity of a sequence. There's a soft called Glove Pie, but we need an application who can read the hand movements of the Wii and translate in Midi information, in a musical way.

Bye.

Consider using the "Live Playback" tools in Sibelius - you can slide note start times forward/backward to help break up the mechanical playback, and by varying velocity and note lengths playback will improve.

I would also consider recording your parts into Sibelius in real time using a MIDI keyboard. This is how the EW sounds are designed to be played, and the human element and variation on every note will make a huge difference.

Finally, consider that you can record MIDI data to a staff in Sibelius without disturbing the notes or score appearance. This way you can still used detailed CC data to shape the performance, but need only to switch off "view hidden objects" and your score looks the same as before.

I've seen this done in various ways - some sort of sensor is set up to send MIDI data, typically CC7 or CC11 based on the movements it picks up. I'm honestly not that big on it, I'd rather have my fingers on a keyboard and use some combination of modwheel/pitchwheel and expression pedal to shape a performance.

Now I made everything and tried some orchestral pieces, but I'm not very happy with the sound: the sound quality is better with the original Kompakt version! When I use the sound files in Kontakt :1 ) the volume is very low, the sound look seem no the same quality of original sampler.

At this point, I'm not very sure Kontakt is reading the EWQL sounds file, how can I check it ?

I'm sorry, I checked again everything : Kontakt is loading correctly the EWQL sounds !

But the sound quality is better with Kompakt, I don't know why.

EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sound Set Update v1.5

This update fixes a number of "File Not Found" error messages due to incorrect file names and/or folder paths in the sound set across all versions. All users should download and install the updated sound sets.

For more details on what needs replaced, please refer to the Changelog PDF file included in the download. Note that this update will not resolve "File Not Found" error messages caused by an incorrectly installed sound set.

Special thanks to user Jay Grizzard for not only bringing these errors to my attention, but providing a script that compiled all the errors making this a considerably less involved update.

The sound sets can be downloaded here: http://jonathanloving.googlepages.com/

I was following the mac instructions until it asked me to find com.native-instruments.EWQLSO Gold Ed PRO XP in the preferences folder, which definitely isnt there. There are only 3 beginning with com.native-instruments:

kontakt3, userpatches, servicecenter, and content

I re-read the instructions several times, did I miss something?
