Ethereal Heaven

Featured Replies

Hi, long time lurker so I thought I should post some of my music..

Ethereal Heaven It was originally intended for computer game music competition which I was fortunate to win.

Hope you enjoy.. :)

I like this, its very smooth and calming. Its like the music after the climax of a movie, or after a resolution has been made.

I'll be honest, I really didn't like it. Well I liked the vocals, but for being an ethereal heaven it just seemed too strangling in the beginning for me. Towards the end it got more likable. It also sounded a lot like something from Lord Of the Rings. Which isn't bad, just an observation. Lastly because of the title, I'm thinking the piano part should have more re-verb and sound more distant and "ethereal". Don't misunderstand me this is a well done piece, it's just the melody, for lack of a better word, just didn't grab me.

I agree with Reth only in the sense that it sounds Lord of the Rings ish. But I love Howard Shore so that isnt bad. I actually loved the piece. I do not think that Reth gets the idea that it was written as computer game music. It is meant to be listened to while playing a game. It reminds me of Advent Rising in the game world. LOL 18 year old gamer talkin. But ya, overall, great piece of music you have here. Is there a score?

Sixtoes, I understand it is for a video game. It was the feeling that I didn't like. Like I said in my first post I liked it better in the end, but the beginning gave me a squelched feeling like the piece was going to open up but didn't. I know I'm using abstract terms and it would be more helpful if I didn't, but I don't know how else to describe it.

I get what ur sayin. u were waiting for something that never came. thats happened to me with an elevator once (i was forced to take the stairs on crutches)... i just didnt get that in this piece. but music doesnt have the same impression on everybody so i dont guess we can definitively say its right or wrong. But i enjoyed it so... ah whutta i know?

Your exactly right, Sixtoes. It would suck to take the stairs on crutches. And your right about music not having the same effect on everybody the same way. I guess the trick to composing is to get the majority of people to like your music. If that happens then the few negative critiques that a piece gets really aren't that pertinent to the composer, I mean Edath did win a contest so obviously it is enjoyed by more than a few.

no arguments here

Very nice and relaxing piece, were those Voices of Passion samples in the beginning? The overall atmosphere is very consistent with its imagery and I can see this setting the stage of an emotional cut scene in a game. I aspire to create music for games as well - although you have the jump on me. :)

Thanks for all the comments guys. Everything is a help in order to get a different perspective on your own work. What I wanted was a a broad piece of music that could be used repeatedly in say space sector that wouldn't dominate whats 'going on'. It is Voices of Passion samples at the beginning - fiddly but it can work well at times.

Play Advent Rising. The first scene when u fly the space shuttle has a similar feel to it if i remember right. So if u were going for space, you have professional style or similar to it.
