Guitar composition "Genna with a G"

Featured Replies

Here's one that I did not too long ago. I wrote it for a friend of mine named Genna, but spelled with a G instead of a J, so I saw a title right there for it :P

I was attempting to blend a few different ideas and techniques in with the piece, the beginning intro starts with a Bluegrass esque motif, with a sort of simple ascending bass line that echoes. For the chorus I was shooting for a folky sound with some Bach-ish ideas in the mix, I don't know if I achieved it or not, but that's what I was shooting for. The strumming section uses a Ukulele styled strumming pattern which I picked up from Jake Shimabukuro

I don't have a score as Finale hates my computer and open tunings are insane to write down on sheet music.

Well Any comments welcome, so long as their constructive or have some way to improv the piece :P

SoundClick artist: William Daniel Kirkland - I am a quirky steel string playing classical guitarist with a cheeseball slew of influences

Sounds good. Yeah, I imagine strumming would be hard to notate. How do you record?

thanks.

Mainly I use a Tascam multi track recorder with an Audio Technica At3035 mic as well as a BBE acoustimax preamp for the onboard pickup with the guitar.

This is pretty cool... very folksy.

You can definitely notate strumming using the flamenco method - just write out the chord every chord change, and use arrows to indicate strumming up or down on the chord with the appropriate rhythms.

Nice work!

thanks :D

As far as notation is concerned it's not the strumming I would have a problem with, it's notating the guitar when it's in a completely different tuning, instead of standard this piece inparticular uses DADF#AD instead of EADGBE so you can see how it'd be a problem

Very nice !
