Finale randomly shutting down?

Featured Replies

Whenever I try to fast forward finale from measure 1 to measure X, the program automatically completely shuts down .

Same goes whenever I try to rewind, it automatically shuts down also.

Is this a glitch or is this common in Finale?

It doesn't happen to me, but things like that are usually a) memory issues, b) corrupt file issues. So, if you think your computer's memory is fine, then try uninstalling finale entirely (deleting every instance of finale on your computer, from registry etc - a good tool is ccleaner, which cleans up your entire computer from all the caches and temp files, and things that are no longer needed in terms of registry etc), and then re-installing it.

Other than that, you can also ask the finale website help team for more information, I bet they can help.. :X

Mine (Finale 2008 on a mac) crashes a lot during playback - and those are really bad crashes that shut down the whole system, not just Finale. It kind of sucks when I forget to save often enough, but I don't use playback all too often, so it's not that much of a problem.

And sadly I can't just easily reinstall it, because I don't have it on CD. (I'd have to bring my laptop to an office of my uni where they would reinstall it and I could get it back the next day or so, which I'm too lazy for.)

Almost all the crashes I've ever seen in Finale are due to memory issues; I haven't crashed at all in 2009, but 2007 used to crash if I tried to do too many things at once while working in a large score with lots of GPO instruments.

What are you doing when it crashes?

my finale 2009 shuts down on playback but it seems to pick certain files that it does this on. it never happens if i am working on a shorter piece or one with few instruments. any large ensemble has potential to shut down randomly on mine. but some days everything runs just fine.

Do you save your file before hitting the playback button? Make sure that it's actually done saving the file before you hit Play. On large scores that may take a few seconds.

Example One:

I was just about to hit save- finale gives me a message that an error has happened and needs to shut down.

Example Two:

I hold the fast forward button for more than 5 seconds, finale program closes with an error message.

These errors only occur when using multiple GPO instruments.

problem: Finale crashes when "fast forward" is pressed

solution: don't use fast forward.

I've NEVER in, god only knows how many years of using Finale, used the fast forward button.

I just click to the measure I need.

That's a working solution, but not quite satisfactory, especially seeing that it appears this problem has persisted over several versions of Finale without getting fixed.
