Twilight In Olympus

Featured Replies

Hello,

Here is my piece for submission to the Greek Mythology Competition. At first I wasn't going to submit this, but what have I got to lose right :P

The piece consist of three movements, each depicting a single event or place (or so I would hope :)) Originally I was just going to write the first movement but I just got a kick out of this topic I couldn't stop myself ha.

{I think im just going to submit the first mvt is for the contest, see below}

The whole piece took me about a week and a half to write but the majority of the time, however, was probably spent on the first movement alone. I created a theme in the first and second movements that are later used in the last movement along with new material for the big, scary gods.

There is also quite a bit of tension and release throughout pretty much all three movements but especially in the last movement. I felt the gods and goddess needed to be feared a little bit before calming down ha.

I hope some of its enjoyable!

(And just a note about the harp part in the first mvt... at the end, those are suppose to be glissandos but instead they actually wrote out the whole thing lol computers these days. And sorry about the percussion parts, some of them look like a mess.)

Twilight In Olympus:

Mvt 1 The Titans Last Stand.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Mvt 2 Atop Mount Olympus.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Mvt 3 The Immortals Rage.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

I think I'm just sending in the first mvt. to the contest because the other two pdfs are taking up too much storage, I wouldnt be able to post anything else. But I wouldn't mind showing the other two scores upon request.

The first movement is really exciting. It kind of sounds like the mission impossible theme.

My only comment concerns some awkward leaps in the brass. The leaps from measure 95 to 96 are going to be really awkward to pull off on brass instruments.

Hey,

You are soo correct about that awkward leap. I actually meant to write in the lower "A" in the horn part as well so it would only be an octave jump.

Thanks for you comment

My favorite of the three movements is the second. I get such a windy and majestic feeling from it. I really like it.

I don't have much other input besides that, sorry :(. Keep up the good work!

Could you send the two other scores to my e-mail address? I am one of the judges of the 'Olympia' competition, so I should have a look at it :)

Hey,

Sure I'll send you the other scores whenever I go home next time, either this weekend or next weekend, but definitely sometime before the competition is over...

i loved the first movement , it feels like your listening to Koji Kondo! , the 2nd and the 3rd movement are good ! good job:D

I liked Movement 2 very much. It was a good idea. I liked Mov. 3 too, but I didnt like Mov 1 that much. I think Mov. 1 just dont fit for that "Olympus feeling". Keep on composing! ;)

Hey,

I'm happy to know you've enjoyed the last two movements, but in my opinion if there was a movement that really didn't fit, it would've been the 3rd movement. Hmm I dont know...

Thanks for commenting everybody :)
