Thank you!

I'm 18 (I was 17 when I wrote this.

I'm very grateful for your comments, they're all helpful.

Keep them coming please!

That's some funky notation! If nothing else, that needs some work! I noted some mistakes below.

M. 1. Piano: I know what you were trying to notate here, but that is not the way to do it!

M. 46. Violas: This is a really bad mistake, I wouldn't even have noticed it if it wasn't for the different colours. I may be mistaken, but what it looks like you were trying to write was legato B-flat to B. But what is actually notated is two tied A-flats. You need to put a natural sign in front of the second B.

M. 50. There's an arco marking above nothing.

M. 52. 'Cellos: The slur doesn't make sense. This happens throughout the piece.

M 130. Piano: The 8va sign is completely un-necessary.

Also, some of the articulations and expressions overlap each other, and the title changes from the second page onwards.

Finale won't let me put natural signs where you've indicated, I've tried before. I just wrote it in when I printed it out.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the cello slurs. Explain? and also what do you mean about the 8va?

I haven't had any training in notation. I've just been using what I know from playing (I play trumpet so I'm not familiar with string notation), what I can ask of people I know, what I can research, and what I can gather from scores. I ask these questions with the utmost sincerity and really appreciate the comments and help.

oh and the overlapping problem is Finale being weird. When I print it out it will place markings in the middle of pages and whatnot. I much prefer to hand write.

1.

Pianotremolo.jpg

This is the correct way to notate the piano tremolo.

  • Fill the bar with the two notes you want to tremolo between. Ex. Minum F-sharp (below the staff) & minum F-sharp (on the staff).

  • Select the measure with the selection tool.

  • Find the Easy Tremolos Plug-in under the Plug-in list.

2.

  • Select the Speedy Entry tool.

  • Click on the note.

  • Press "A"

I'm no expert on string notation either, but if I was notating this, this is the way I'd write it.

There seems to be no reason why you couldn't notate it like this.

The notational advice is good advice...however, onto the music..I think it is quite good, particularly at the beginning and end..I would say that at the middle section it becomes a little too much chordy..what I mean is that we start hearing chunks of chord changes with little variation between them. The piano accompaniment tends to be stagnant much of the time. The piece is quite nice overall and the performers did a great job. The pizz sections are pretty nifty..hmm thats about all for now

Thanks for the Finale tips. Yeah that 8va was absolutely silly. I must have written it in as a revision and copied it down instead of moving the notes.

Thanks benxiwf. Yeah it was all performed and recorded by my fellow students.

Looking back I may have changed the piano part. It's original purpose was to replace the bass because I didn't have any at school to write for.
