Cold Blooded - Jazz Band

Featured Replies

It's been a while since I've posted anything. This is a funk chart for jazz band that was inspired by "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. One of the people involved in the "non-fiction novel" is Perry Smith, who is a musician of sorts. I can imagine hime playing something like this - It was in my head when I read the book. That's a bit morbid, isn't it?

ANYWAY

It's set up in a very basic eight bar style. The basic chordal harmony is Cmin superimposed over Gmin. Very.. easy. I hope you enjoy it.

As usual, please excuse my pathetic drum writing.

PDF and MIDI are attached, my box isn't large enough to support a .WAV file.

EDIT: I just noticed, the bass part is flipped in measures 58-59.

Nice chart, good work! Great use of call and response btwn the ww and brass. Maybe try to expand the harmonic content by adding substitution chords, slash chords (works great for cadences) or add a bridge or shout chorus with varrying chords as a contrast; the static harmonic mvmnt makes the listened tune out after a while. Remember always keep 'em guessing and make sure your beginning/endings are the most exciting part of the chart - it's the first and last thing that the audience hears!

The music looks nice, but the midi file doesn't do much to show off your piece. None of the saxes or trombones come through. All I hear are the trumpets and rhythm section.

Thanks for the comments! I really with that I had made the harmonic background a little more diverse!!
