orchestration of 6 little piano pieces

Featured Replies

This is from my orchestration class. Sound good?

Also, how would be the best way to notate a slow crescendo from silence with as inaudible an attack as possible?

Can you just show me a score? The midi is really off.

I've played the 6 little pieces, and this sounds like it could be interesting.

Just post it or email me: chines89@gmail.com

I could be wrong, but it may be effective to tie the preceding rest to the note. Otherwise, just try writing exactly what you said: "from silence; no attack".

MattGSX is on the right track.

I've also seen :

nothing < mf

Or n. (for nothing or niente) < mf.

I think I've seen it done with a wee circle too. Like a circle stuck on the end of the harpin.

Yeah, that's probably the most standard notation.

It's a pain to do with Finale though. :( I've found no better solutions than combining a harmonics-circle articulation with a hairpin, and readjusting them every time the layout changes slightly.

Anyways, I'd love to see a PDF of this.

In my pieces, i use "n"

In a several other pieces that I have seen by popular classical composers, they also use "n"

n seems to be the most popular useage for nothing to ff, mf, etc.

My guess is that the wide use of "n" comes mainly from the difficulties of most notation programs to write the dal niente crescendos with the little circle. That would explain why I've rarely seen it in handwritten scores.

i use the "n" when i'm using finale... although my comp prof. uses the same n. and he handwrites all of his scores... its a fairly ubiquitous symbol...

By the way, you can do this easily in Sibelius 5, as I've just found out!
