So basically i have to write a song. Everything is allowed, including parrallel 5ths but what is ussually forbidden should be saved for when its when its needed.

String_Ensemble_1.MID

pretty cool Jason. reminds me of a dungon or boss theme for some game. me likes :D

I agree, it really sounds like the introduction to a boss battle theme (sounds kinda like ''The Extreme'' from FF8, just less cheesy-pop style :D). Very moody, interesting colours. Now bring in the drums and electric guitar :D

If game music isn't your aim though, you can try to either make it go wild (i'm thinking Prestissimo Barbaro or something here), or just build intensity in the strings to reach a climax. Both work equally well, i've found.

Thanks for the advice. Letehn, ill take your second idea sticking with the strings for my assignment and when i get around to it ill make a video game arrangement, possibly for full band with electric guitar

I thought Parallel 5ths wasnt used back in Bach's type of partwriting music. Just because it was a primitive sound and made your music sound unsophisticated. Im pretty sure there are lots of parallel 5ths being used today. They aren't forbidden anymore.

Other than that. Its a good start. It gives me the feeling that there is gonna be a boss battle like in the Final Fantasy series.

Thanks, seems to be a general agreement on the video game origin of the piece. Yes, the parrallel 5ths are no longer forbidden but its written for a basic theory class so i have to follow proper part writing
