Hi,

Let me know what you think of this first part, enjoy.

There is no score, since I wrote this directly to the piano roll.

A score can be made from the piano roll. Thus, as per my usual policy, no review without score. k?

I think the harmony is rather static, it loosens up as it goes but still static. The levels are a bit weird, the double bass comes right into my face (oo er) at the beginning.

Some shifts of harmony that create dissonance I don't find work too well. But I think if you treated their movement differently they could mingle in with the consonants a little more smoothly, like a geek wearing sunglasses.

The ostinato that goes throughout, from experience of my 'the flight' piece, should be less of a copy and paste job, and play around a little with variations.

That's all I have to say on a first listen. Other than it's a rather pleasant, mysterious piece, two aspects of music I like most ^_^

It's good. Real good.

My favorite part is the contrapuntal section between the cello/violin flute and layer violin/flute/clarinet. The opening struck me as a little bland but the ensuing gradual harmonic change was welcomed.

I agree with Andy Light about the ostinato, though very good along with the sfz from the strings, some slight alterations would be good as time passes. Maybe as you proceed you could work on that/ Also having the harps doing the ostinato most of the time - well not sure how well that will be heard live when you have the 3 voice counterpoint come in - be sure to check your dynamics and articulations to ensure the harps aren't drowned. Another option is have the ostinato travel gradually to other orchestral groups through creative doubling and hocket. Overall very promising start.

I like, very incidental indeed.

Agree with the little 'in your face' sections, but generally like the chord changes, the interplay, and the various soli.

Very interesting. I particularly enjoy the dark opening and how it seems to flow into the dissonances. I don't find it bland at all, in fact it sounds more like a river flowing downstream into hell. I like it very much.
