Collision(For Brass Quintet)

Featured Replies

This piece brings you thru a winding force of a car collision, with a small delusional break-down leading back to the emits of chaos.

This is a very odd piece. Parts of the beginning work very well, but the melodies are a little too off-kilter in my opinion. Also, the constant 2 2 3 rhythm gets a little monotonous after a while, particularly when there is nothing occurring on top of it. The middle section, where it slows, is quite good, and the relationship between harmony and dissonance very interesting. The ending is also good, much better than the beginning despite being in a similar style. Overall, it is pretty solid and definitely interesting.

Things I liked:

Rhythm at 39-42

Collision theme was well-illustrated.

Creative use of chords.

Things I didn't like:

Monotonous rhythm 2+2+3. It is driving, but collisions are rarely that constant.

Triplets on the trumpet at the end. Too showy. Covered up some potential in the rhythm.

Overall:

It's good. The things I mentioned that I didn't like don't take away too much from the overall quality of the piece. It's very descriptive.

Good Job and keep 'em coming!

another well written piece in 7/8... i liked the minimalist aspects to this one as well...

my only critique is the second repeat of the A section (after the Adagio) you had a good thing going, but i think you ended it to soon. i wish the piece had continued further... it was a good piece though
