EWQL tutorials....?

Featured Replies

I bought the Complete Composer's Collection last August (I use it with Kontakt 3), and have been using it over the past year, but because I did not focus on digital production while in school, I didnt get much of a chance to explore putting things together with efficiency and practicality in mind. I learned a whole lot about putting multiple tracks together and getting a decent outcome, but not all that much about the technical aspects, sound manipulation, customization, etc.

Side note: do we have a discussion going on here regarding the pros and cons of various sample libraries? I havent seen much aside from an occasional "EWQL has awful strings and woodwinds and brass" etc.

In my installation of all of the libraries, I never really seemed to find all that much luck with the instructions provided by EWQL. Lots of dead links and other links taking me where they shouldnt have.

So... is there any place I can find tutorials? The manual that came with the sound sets is terrible, and probably hasnt been updated in several years barring the finale style "let's tack this and this on"

For example. I am wondering if there is a way for my to create my own key switches, so that I dont have to either a) have separate tracks for legato, staccato, pizz, etc, or b) use the built in key switches, having no control over which sound sets I am using, and pretty much defeating the purpose of using a library like Gold XP.

Also never was able to find out how to use Symphonic Choirs with word builder, and I would like to play around with it and become aware of its potential.

Any resources you all are aware of?

Your best bet for tutorials is the soundsonline.com video tutorials and youtube video tutorials.

Youtube will have everything your looking for if soundsonline doesn't.

What's wrong with using multiple tracks instead of keyswitches? Easier to convert to score too, if you need that.

Wordbuilder tutorial:

You're better off using Ahs and Ohs and such. The words are mostly unintelligible and sound very fake. I prefer Symphony of Voices, that's a really old choir library but I've never heard anything that sounded better.

Multiple tracks are much harder to convert to score for what I'm thinking of. Pizzicato strings arent in a separate staff, nor are muted strings, staccato, etc. If I had a different track for every time I needed a different sound from an instrument, it would be incredibly cluttered, and when I converted to score I would end up with 5 staves per instrument, which would be a pain.

Regarding Symphonic Choirs, I'm still curious to try them out. I'm sure it's situational, but there's plenty of choral music out there where the listener has no reason to actually be understanding the words being sung. Thanks for the link.
