EMOTIONS-PIANO SOLO

Featured Replies

Hi to all music friends,

today I post another new piece of mine I finished now, the direction is romantic, so I hope some of you will like it. Its for piano solo, about 4,5 minutes long. Feel free to comment if you want, your feedback is always a motivation for me.

Have you considered adding maybe another instrument, a violin or a cello could accompany this perfectly, Sorry for bad spelling, just woke up lol!

Some notational errors, some people take this as an insult, but it's not intended as such, just something to improve the piece!

Dynamics

  • Numberous measures - It is not customary to write a different dynamic for each piano staff. Generally, the performer will play the accompaniment softer anyway. If this was for playback, which I don't think it affects anyway; the piano being on the same channel and all, you can hide those dynamics!
Edit: Though some composers, such as Mozart and John Field, do write different dynamics for each staff, I believe it was for a different purpose than what you hoped to achieve here, namely playback.
  • Meas. 10 - The dynamic marking usually doesn't come in the middle of a crescendo or decrescendo.

Phrasing

  • Meas. 7 - When notes are phrased as they are here, two slurred crotchets, some pianists will play the second staccato as is sometimes customary. If this is not the effect you intended, I suggest removing the slur, as the performer will play it smoothly anyway.
  • Meas. 27-28 - Slur crossing notes. I'm not sure this slur is vitally necessary either.
  • Meas. 43-end - Phrasing seems to be abandoned!

Grouping

  • Numerous measures - Though not technically incorrect, it is common to seperate low notes or intervals from the rest of the beat grouping, such as those in measure 10.

Rests

  • Numberous measures - There seems to be a number of random whole-note rests floating around. If the bar is not techinically being used, but is being used for cross-staff notation, the rests can, and should, be hidden.
  • Numberous measures - Rests are in odd places for no apparent reason.

Misc

  • The end of page 1 is cut off
  • Meas. 70 - Why is there a bar line after this key change?
  • Some of the stems are upside-down

Alternatively, you could use the 'Cantabile' marking, which would imply the same, although the above is correct - the pianist will play this anyway.

Very nice piece, encapsulates the title. Truely emotional.

B39 I believe it was there was some unorthodox jumping. Too big of a leep. Although other than that, was very nice. I plan on learning it myself.
