Short acoustic guitar piece

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm not musically trained myself (self taught, in a rough and ready way), and have tried to pick up some music theory as and when I could - but my knowledge isn't that great. So It'd make me very happy if someone were to musically dissect and analyze a guitar piece of mine. I'm fascinated by music theory, and would love to know how my piece works in terms of structure, melody, mood, rhythm, meter, key modulation and....oh, anything else that comes to mind.

I used a guitar TAB program that generates a simple score - I fudged it a bit on the pauses, but it's all good.

Here's the score/TAB notation:

And here's streaming audio of the piece itself:

Apologies for the poor recording.

This is a beautiful piece, the harmony and melody combine perfectly and really carry you away.

I'm going to be busy for a couple of days but after that I'll copy it out and analyse it then post some scans for you to see.

Hey, I listened to the piece just now and I enjoyed it. Just taking a quick look at it now it looks like it starts in Em and then modulates to Bm which is a nice change and not jarring whatsoever. It follows the order of sharps F# then C#.

The mood is quite somber in my estimation and there's nothing wrong with that.....

Keep writing, the musical sense is the most important, learning about music should only expand the musical possibilities but your musical-life sense should be the guide through all.

Good Luck

Thank you both! I appreciate the input, and I'm glad you both like the piece.
