Flute Sonata (For Flute and Piano Four Hands)

Featured Replies

This is my first attempt at writing a flute sonata. It is a very dissonant piece but many of the textures are quite peaceful. I would be interested in comments about the piano part and if it is suitable/ playable for four hands. Much thanks!

Note: this is only the first movement, I will be writing and posting the next 2 movements ASAP.

Sorry about the messy score.

Very interesting. I'm not sure, 'maybe' I love it :D

I would change the piano part. With a little bit of tweaking, it could work for just two hands! Music sounds great though!

Hmm, I was thinking about that, but I decided against it since I thought the extreme rhythmic variation (7 against 5, 5 against 3, etc.) between the two parts might pose many performance problems for one pianist.

Any thoughts on this?

Nah, it shouldn't be TOO difficult for a skilled performer! Preferably one with slightly larger than normal hands to stretch a 9th or 10th! I just think it isn't busy enough for four hands, what would end up happening a lot of the time is that both pianists would be using one hand each!

What about the parts where the right hand skips approximately 2 octaves back and forth in quick succession. Those certainly would not be possible correct?

Well the piece isn't that fast, so it's not really quick succesion. There are probably some cases where this may need to be amended though.
