Gailleann nan Sliabh - A Celtic Melody

Featured Replies

The following piece is an original melody in the celtic style, with harmony and counterpoint, on (primarily) flute, violin, cello and bass.

As midi files can vary quite dramatically when played on different computers, I've uploaded an mp3 file instead. In one or two sections, where several voices are combining at once, the audio becomes a little choppy.

The score isn't very presentable--I wrote it with a guitar program, so it is an octave too high--but I've included it anyway.

Any comments or criticisms would be very much appreciated.

Here is the mp3.

I really like this, really nice melody, harmony and arrangement. I liked the last little bit especially. Only thing I'd say is that sometimes at the start the melody felt like it wanted to rest on one note for a bit but it was ornamented; I would bring the ornamentation in more slowly over the course of the tune and start of very simple.

Thanks for the comments and tips, Oscar. I think you're right about the ornamentation; I'll try introducing it a bit more subtly.
