New version.

thanks

The instruments sound good and the main idea is great, however its abit long and after a short while it becomes pretty much predictable.

Movie scenes with this kind of tension wouldn't go ferther then a minut.

Anyways, as I said... it sounds good and the instrumentation is fantasic.

Thanks gidon!

Yeah I guess I should actually make them shorter.. Thanks!

Coax

I merged your first posts in the thread. You may just want to edit your first post and delete the first link.

It's always nice to know what samples are used and how the piece was made. As in what programs were used, DAW's, notation, etc.

The ideas here in the music are all pretty straight forward Hollywood standards that have been used a lot in the past, but that is the best way to learn a genre.

Sounds pretty good.

THanks rolifer, i edited the post.

And also yeah, it's nothing groundbreaking at all, I was trying to create what ive always heard on tv and on film, so yeah.

i use ableton live for daw and symphobia for the instruments.. (none of the cluster instruments though all of the chords were made by me)

It has an element of John Barry in certain areas. I wouldn't call it horror as such, but it does set a sombre mood, such as someone discovering a sinister past of one of the characters.

What would have been nice is to have had those block chords in the background with a theme (tune) played on say Oboe or Cors Anglais, maybe some horns or even a solo cello, just to have an extra layer rather than 4-beat somewhat-discordant chords all the way through.

It ain't that bad.

very nice, reminds one of a gothic cathedral

my suggestion would be experiment with glock or chime overtone, in the back ground playing one note or an idea throughout the entire thing, so during those suspenseful pauses in the orchestra, you hear an eerie ring or tone.

my suggestion. anyway great chords, great use of instruments, maybe develop more of a melody.

great work.

thanks for taking the time to comment guys..

anthony: i will try to build more on it, following your ideas..

in fact "dark past" isn't such a bad title for this! thanks for the comment on what it reminded you of..

brandon: you're too kind! the melody is always a problem, not sure how it could be improved.

i make all my work based solely on the ear, i dont use any theory consciously cause I don't know any.

i will see what i can do about the overtones..

Sounds good, i love symphobia! I'm using to write a horror score myself right now...well using it to sweeten other libraries mostly.

This could use a little more depth but i like it, nice job! :)

What do you mean when you say depth?

Can you give an example?

Thanks for listening!

Sorry to be vague, by depth i meant more sonically than musically. It could benefit from adding other samples from different libraries if you've got 'em. I usually use Symphobia as a sweetner in conjuntion with EWQLSO. As someone stated previously, it starts to sound a little long, so some variety would really spice it up! Perhaps some percussion, such as cymbal flares and timp rolls would also work nicely, or even a creepy choir. Just some ideas and my two cents. Nicely done once again.

i heard it...and i quite liked it... it looks like a horror movie from the 80's :P besides that...it quite look like anime horror as well ... :P well done :D
