Sinfonia

Featured Replies

The phrase-marked subject is given by Ananth whom I asked to teach me how to write a fugue. But it didn't turn out a fugue so I'm calling it sinfonia...

I used a heckelphone... Don't you all like heckelphones?

Seeing as this is a trio, its not really a sinfonia.

Your movement between each instrument is a bit rough, you can smooth it out by overlapping a bit more -- it'll flow better.

Don't use C scores, it's inappropriate given the scope and instrumentation you used.

Using the heckelphone and Clarinet in D means this will never be performed, ever.

Your choice of those two instruments seems arbitrary, and neither part is particularly idiomatic (the heckelphone part is more idiomatic than the Clarinet in D part, though).

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Thanks, you're right, I assumed that the clarinet in D is a better choice because of the key, not knowing it is a rare instrument. I also didn't delve into the background knowledge of these instruments, choosing them purely for convenience off the list Sibelius gave me. I'm not sure about C score, do you mean the brackets that Sibelius automatically creates for ensembles or the notation in sounding pitch?

A C score means that everything is written in concert pitch instead of written pitch (for example, in an orchestral score, the B-Flat trumpet part is written in C instead of B-Flat, where it "sounds").

Ok thanks again, will keep that in mind.
