Supreme Marimba

I made this piece on Sep 2005, my main purpose was to create a less complex beat (less cymbals and that stuff), and use not so much of elements, ... a simple music, but cool.

(I have posted my recent tracks so, now I go in backward :toothygrin: )

i think I wrote too much text in my last thread (and I didn't receive many replies) so now I keep it tiny.

It may be because I'm high at the moment but this is beautiful, really. I could listen to it for a long long time, and I especially love the finger snap sound.

I originally thought in recording the Bass part myself, but the bass generator sounds ok no ? ... besides I would have to use new strings to produce that sound ....

I like this a lot. Fun tune with nice energy and movement.

A couple of quick comments:

I think the drums can come up about 2db. I'm going to say this sort of thing until you listen to me. :) Your drums are always too far back in the mix.

The delay on the chord synth around 2:45 is a little weird. There are three taps and the first two are in time but the third one is not. If you are using a multi-tap, check the timing on that third delay. I don't know what's going on with it, but it doesn't sound right.

I think my problem with the drums is this:

I have told several times that I handle the synths like an orchestra, well, imagine a Large orchestra + a drums set, ... what will happen if the full orchestra play fff ? the drums won't be very loud ... I think in my mind I listen to my pieces thinking on that and when I set fff in all the stuff, I may think that the drums are ok, .... but I'm aware of my way of listening could be wrong.

At 4:36 when I set all in fff the massive sounds send the drums to the back, and if I suddenly set it louder wouldn't be right .... But I will keep in mind this problem I use to have with beat within my massive synths sounds.

The "weird chord" is not a chord, is just an unison Pad, that sample pad has a minor 6th and then a 5th (related to the tonic) in the last seconds .... so a C# is been played, after 4 secs appears the A and then turns into G# ...... plus a down-gliss I putten in the (TS404) bass-line, I think some overtones are created on that part, but that's accidentally :D

the piece switches tonalities like this:

F#minor (0:00-1:32), E minor (1:33-2:02), C#minor (2:03-2:41) * F#minor (2:42-3:49), C#minor (3:50-4:35), F#minor 4:35-End)

*There's the "weird chord".

In a few days, when this thread start being forgotten :D I'll post another piece with many different beats .... check it out, I think the weak drums was a problem on this track only, but you said "always" .... (maybe more in this one and less in others)

Ah!!!!! Steve, why don't you check the 9th track of my album, my lastest elec-piece (the newest) and tell me if you think I'm getting better or I keep making this mistake .... there's also an even bigger massive sound construction on that track ....
