Epsilon-Alpha Theme

This is a theme for a sci-fi warfare game that takes place in the 2090s where the primary weapon of choice for military entities is mechanized mobile suits on land/planets and space craft in... space.

For those of you who have no idea what a mobile suit is it is this:

And here is the piece:

Hope you enjoy it, I worked hard on it :P Any comments, critique, or advice are welcomed. Thanks for listening!

I really liked the beginning.

It set the mood really nicely in my opinion.

The strings added a ... ... whats the word... [that word here] effect to it.

I especially liked the percussion in the earlier stage of the piece.

After re listening to it for a second time, I can really imagine the mobile suits marching across some type of land scape!

I enjoyed this.

The music in this forum just keeps getting better and better.

You said you worked hard on this one. It usually takes me anywhere from 6-10 hours of work per minute of music. How long did it take you to do this? As in how many hours per minute of finished music.

Also, what libraries did you use and in what sequencer?

The opening section in this is fantastic. Nice work in the panning.

Well done!

Ron

You said you liked the guitars in my last one. Go to Yellowtools and download Indendence Free. It has 2 Gbs of some great samples for free and the engine that runs them is the best free one I have ever seen. Just a great freebie.

IT'S BUILT WONDERFULLY! I love the idea that you took it to a sensitive place after a short while. it makes you think of the scene it was made for.

I do think you could have givin more "breathing space" for the horns so it would sound as if reall people are playing.

same for the flutes.

Other then that, you're good.

Hey everyone,

SaXoPhoNe-AlT:

Glad you enjoyed it and glad my portrayal illuminated for you.

GidonRicardo:

I can agree with you on the breathing spaces. I would look into it and fix it, but I already sent it to the producer. Perhaps I should have held on to it for a few days.

Ron:

I can't say exactly how long it took, but if I had to guess I would say around 17 hours, divide into 3 is approximately 5.666... hours per minute (which is roughly 5 hours and 40 minutes?), but I have to admit that the time invested in each section which I consider there to be three, build - climax- resolution (technically wasn't a resolution though), are unequally distributed.

In other words, I have no idea.

But, I can say I worked harder and more carefully than I have in the past on making everything fit from arrangement to production. I also spent an extra 2-3 hours (not included in the 17 hour estimate above) just messing with sounds and what not to find an effect that I felt would express the certain situations (cues.) The main melody (just the part the trombone plays in the beginning) I had originally written 5 or 6 days before I had even started making this piece. So really, I had been planning and planning and then finally executed.

Anyway, enough rambling...

Libraries:

I use EWQLSO Silver and Silver XP, percussion was just free stuff I find here and there. The percussion is actually several different samples (like the snare for example) of the percussion instrument playing at the same time to make the sound you hear in the recording.

RAW:

I use FL Studio 8. I have used FL for 4, almost 5 years, so I like to think I'm pretty handy with it by now. :P

Also, I checked out the IF samples and agree with you; those some of the best free guitar samples I've heard and are the best I have ever gotten my hands on. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment on my piece! I assure you that your advice and interests are greatly appreciated.

Sunny

Edit: I forgot to mention that some of the percussion is from Project SAM's True Strike (1 & 2) mainly due to the fact that I forogt I had them.

I liked the melody to this, as well as the beginning, It definitely makes me think of war. Well written brass parts definitely bring out the best in these kinds of pieces, and you did a great job of getting the kind of sound perfect for this kind of mood...I liked the flute part as well around 1:35, (as a flute player I listen to that quite obviously). The way that you simply brought everything to a soft, mellow, mysterious yet calm place was skillful, and I definitely enjoyed it, as it still had plenty of tension.

Good job! :)

Thanks, glad you liked it. Your a flute player, how long can a flutist hold a note on average? I understand that it depends on how loud they are playing and thier level of training, but do you know how long? I tried searching the question and I didn't come up with anything useful. It would help in future compositions to make it sound more realistic.
