String Quartet in Bm - Agitato

Featured Replies

This is a piece with a rather dark atmosphere.

I'd like to know what people think of it.

Any comments - positive or negative are welcome as I'd like to learn to compose better.

Thanks a lot

I like how you handle the theme. I like how the voices interact with eachother. You give the violins and viola a different character from the cello. I think at times the orchestation could be what fuller. I longed for that, but that's me. But it was an enjoyable piece.

When I think agitato, i think of tremolos, trills, unrest. You're agitato was particularly loud (my boxes cracked, and it was interfering with the overall experience of your work...)

I liked some harmonies. ms 35/6 was exciting. Futher you used a lot of I-I6-I-V. The A-chord in ms 40 (and later agian) was a relief. You could do more with your harmonies.

I did get the idea Your piece was in 3/4 instead of 4/4. The accents in ms 2 and further were on m2b1, m2b4, m3b3, m4b2, m5b1 and b4. This hemiole was fun, but a little confusing; was it intended?

Thanks so much to both of you for commenting on my piece. :)

Thanks especially to jrcramer for his very helpful advice. I do agree that I am not adventurous enough with my harmonies and should develop them more.

No, I'm afraid this was an error - but I understand exactly what you mean - I have put the bar lines in the wrong place! :O

Well I have to say I liked the beginning of the piece but you really don't change it up giving us variety for the whole rest of the song which makes it rather boring because one starts to believe they are hearing the same things over and over again. Also, you stick to practically the same key for the whole work one gets sick of hearing the same notes continously so if you change that up you'll bring a whole new refreshing sound to the listener that will keep them intrigued
