Hi!

Okay, so with Nico taking over as your primary instructor, I'm just here to provide optional compositional challenges, which I hope you'll take.

#1: Using the following four pitches (and only these four pitches): Ab, D, E, and G - compose a short piece (approximately 36 bars in length).

#1b ("extra credit"): Write it with NO bars of 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, or 3/8, 6/8, 9/8, or 12/8 (i.e., use only irregular meters such as 5/4, 7/8, etc.).

I shall take them. :)

So for the entire piece I can only use those four pitches?

Yep. Only those four. Should be at least 30 seconds long, but can be longer if you want.

Hey man, I would like some help.

I never have had a theory class, but I have picked up a little theory in my high school orchestra the past two years. i have finale and i can write some melodies down but my problem is i cannot move it along to another theme and cannot create smooth transitions.

i think the problem is that i do not know enough theory so i would like to strengthen and work on the basics.
