Song without Words In E minor No.2

For piano & violin.

Everyone here knows that my favorite composer is Felix Mendelssohn so I composed a Few songs without words myself.

This one is e minor, orignally composed for solo piano but then I added the violin. I thought it gives a romantic feeling when the two instruments play together.

Well, I enjoyed it. It's a lovely melody. That melangolic part in the violin near 3 minute is touching. It's very basis, I mean it's quite by the book. But notheless good. The ending was great!

A very enjoyable piece indeed. Very well written for the most part.

However I felt that the violin played more of "second fiddle" role to the piano with the lack of playing and the unison sections with the piano. And I know this is just an addition to a piano solo (hence most likely why the violin is below the piano) but you did have sections in where the violin and piano complemented each other in the beginning. I would just like to see more of that, but other then that it was a very good peice.

I feel there's too much Theme to Piano echo violin, back to piano, echo violin, both play, back to only piano, then violin and back, etc. I feel you should have more dynamic and interesting interactions between the violin and piano.

One thing you could do is have the violin play some of the harmony and intense textures while the piano eases down, or when they all play together make the tutti more interesting and maybe more spliced. You could also rotate the harmonies like as a pivot chord, instead of just having static repeating block chords, the block chords could fluctuate by using pivot motion around a harmony.

So for example, take a D minor chord repeated three times (so one Dminor chord for the first 3 beats of a 4/4 measure) notes: DFA, root position:

Dm Dm Dm then first half of the fourth beat play C# E A followed by C# E Bb then first beat next measure play C E A (Aminor first inversion) then on the fourth beat of this measure divide it into the chords made up of notes C Eb A on first half of the fourth beat and then B Eb Ab on the second half, start of third measure play a B C# G chord, etc etc.
